Typically when you leave your place of employment, you do not retain your life insurance policy. Most places of employment will terminate with the departing of the employees. There are different circumstances for different individuals. Typically most employers pay into your life insurance along side of you. When you chose to leave a company but want to keep your insurance, you will become responsible for paying the total premium out of pocket. If keeping your life insurance policy after leaving your employer is something possible for you, the question of if you will have to get a medical exam depends greatly on who the provider is. Many times life insurance does not require a medical exam. However, they do require that you answer a list of questions and provide medical history if necessary. By providing this information, you get avoid a medical exam most of the time. However, this is per the provider and the best way to know what will be needed of you is to call your insurance provider and employer.
