When an uninsured person resides in the same home as you, not all situations require you to carry them on your health insurance. You will be required to carry this person on your health insurance if you claim them as a dependent. Most insurance companies will allow you to claim your dependent on your health insurance until they are 26 years old, as long as they meed the specific requirements. If the person living in your home is your spouse, you will have to carry them on your insurance if their company does not offer health insurance.

If someone lives in your home that is not a spouse or dependent, they are not required to be placed on your health insurance. This party would be required to buy insurance through a major medical insurance company or sign up for state insurance at their local city office. Both of these options are easy to obtain.
