Amica insurance has been in business for over 100 years, and is one of the few insurance companies which have consistently won awards based on customer satisfaction. The company is reportedly valued at more than 3.58 billion dollars, with over 385 million in current policies. The company stands alone in the industry for customer service, with more than 74% of their customers remaining loyal for 3 years or more.
Shame on me
Had home, car and umbrella for 21 years. Always went up but not ridiculous. 1 home claim for hail 8 years ago. No other claims. Had $2500 deductible. This year increased home $750. Auto higher but not much. Got 3 quotes from other companies, with $1000 deductible and some other coverages not on my current po,icies. All came in within $100 of each other. Called Amica. Stated increase due to hail history in Colorado. I guess it only hails on Amica homes? Bottom line I am saving over $1300. Should have switched years ago.

Purchased on faith, haven't “needed†yet...
Bought auto and life from Amica based on reviews including Consumer Reports. Cost is along the lines of most insurers – certainly not the most savings but not the highest either. Two minor notes: to change any info -including my state’s new driver license number system- one must phone them as they do not change items online other than email or phone contact info. After three plus years, they suddenly have my policy from 1 year to a six month increment (unsure as to why, as my credit score is in the high 800’s and hasn’t changed), while the rate itself is unchanged. ?! Will call and ask to change back to annually if possible. No claims experience, as no accidents or minor (e.g. window dings) have occurred in the time of my having Amica. Really, I do like this company thus far, but it’s based on their overall reputation more than my actual “need experience” with their product in real action. According to most reviews their claim handling and service is excellent.

Really Bad Customer Service and Over Priced
I’ve been a customer of Amica for almost 40 years, during which time I’ve purchased auto, homeowners and liability insurance and never once have been late with a payment. Last month the Amica invoice was delayed in getting to me because of a change to my address, and my payment arrived a few days beyond the due date. Immediately thereafter I received a terse, threatening and uncompromising letter stating that my insurance was scheduled to be cancelled. I would have expected that after 40 years without missing a payment they might have instead sent me a reminder that my payment was late, rather than a cancellation notice. It was very insulting and crude on their part, so I’ve reached out to a local agent who informs me that he can provide even better coverage at an annual savings of $900. Needless to say I’m switching. My recommendation is that you steer clear of Amica, they are over priced and uncaring towards their customers.

After 17 years they cancelled my poliicy
Amica cancelled my policy after 17 years because my identity was stolen and I was struggling to pay my bill I am also disabled I have homeowners also I am also canceling that. They wouldn’t even call me when I tried to work something out. Don’t do anything to try to keep your business

Change policy without permission
Amica raised uninsured motorist coverage without written permission of their policy holders. Basically, it’s insurance fraud perpetrated by the insurance company themselves. They invest the money stolen from you making a sizable profit. Eventually you get your overpayment returned. Mafia type behavior because they are regulated at the state level. That keeps our complaints contained and manageable! Drop them if you use them!

They paid quickly on lightening strike!
Our home was hit by lightening and we came home to 6 ft hole in roof, brick from fireplace 40 ft feet away from home. They had a team to home to tarp and clean up water in 45 minutes. Though they were initially suspicious because it was a 15 minute storm, they paid immediately when restoration was done. They also covered weird electrical things fried. Our TV under the strike wasn’t friend but fax machine at opposite side of home was… We LOVED them!

Unfortunately has been a bad experience
I hope mine is not representative of the experience had by most policy holders.
I had to file a claim with my renter’s insurance. It was 2 weeks ago and I have no idea what is going on. Although I have attempted to contact someone on several occasions since submitting the claim, I don’t hear back. There was an Independent Investigator sent to get information on the claim, of which I was notified after he had already been to the house for the appointment. It has been my first experience with an insurance claim, and by far not been a good one.

Billing Intentionally Ambiguous
Over the course of the past year I have been unable to get a concrete billing statement/explanation! They don’t abide by their initial quote, keep raising the rate and refuse to give me a statement showing the status of my account! They are masters of the SCAM!

Give services not included in policy.
Great service. Only time rate went up for a year was for my spouse’s ticket they found. I had an accident that was the other car’s fault. Amica still provided a rental car for free, but I know it was not included in our policy. Another time my spouse had a minor parking accident, and they covered it, but our deductible was higher than that. Not sure why they include services not in our plan, but we never had a complaint in 20+ years!

Looking for new insurance.
Involved in accident not at fault and with new renewal, monthly rate jumped up by $80! I could see if you cause an accident, they were great and informative during the time after the accident, but they don’t tell you your payment amount due till you get it . Just your policy. We have both autos and house plus an umbrella policy with them but not for long with this new cost.

Cancelled My Policy Because of Business Travel
I had an Amica homeowner’s policy for a year. Toward the end of the year I was looking for a new auto insurer so I went with Amica. Shortly after signing up a new auto policy I was told that Amica would have to cancel my homeowner’s policy because I told the agent that I was going to be travelling a lot over the course of the year for business, and they said that if I wasn’t in my home for more than 11 months of the year they couldn’t insure me. They immediately stopped returning my calls and began to treat me like I’d somehow attempted to deceive them. They refused to offer me any other policies, and overall kept misquoting me back to myself when I called in to ask why I was being refused a policy. Overall I felt really abused by Amica and it was a really terrible experience. I’ll never have another policy with them again, and strongly recommend against them for customer service.

Doubled my car insurance after 1 year
My policy went from around $850 for one year to $1600 in one year. They said they had a lot of auto claims in AZ last year and I had one speeding ticket for less than 10 miles over the limit. Not sure why that justified doubling my insurance. Every company I called (GEICO, State Farm, AAA, Farmers) all had quotes around $400 for 6 months even with the ticket. I had heard such good things about Amica. Very disappointing. Doubling my rates, plus the poor customer service when I inquired about the rate hike — they blamed me. When I told them the competitive rates I was getting from other companies — they said I was pretty much lying. Then when they saw I wasn’t lying — they told me they had superior service and that somehow justified the doubled rate — obviously not. Plus they made it difficult to terminate my policy — Bad job Amica. Thank goodness I never had to do a claim with them.

Happy customer for 10 years
Happy customers tell 1 person, unhappy customers tell 10. I’m happy to break that saying and want to express how happy I’ve been with Amica. Easy claim process, fair premiums, and hassle free settlement of claims. I’ve been a customer for 10 years and unless something drastically changes, I will be for life.

WHAT WAS I THINKING?
I have never seen such bad customer service. I’ll only mention a couple of problems I had with this bunch but there were many more. They told me that they would call my mortgage company and take care of switching me over to them. Then I get a call from my mortgage company telling me that if I don’t provide proof of insurance by the end of the day that they will provide it for me. When I called Amica, I was then told that they don’t do that and that it was my job. Only after I went around and around with a manager did they agree to take care. All three of us were on the line and their exchange of information regarding this switch sounded like Greek to me so there is no way that I could have provided the necessary information. Then about a month later, I started getting calls from Amica telling me that I needed to raise my coverage limits. I refused and said to just cancel it but they would finally relent but tell me that they would have to raise the coverage limits when I renewed. I already knew at that point there wouldn’t be any renewal and I was wishing I had the time to just go ahead and cancel and go with someone else. It was just too much of a hassle but I should have anyway because they kept calling and saying the same things. I told them today that if they call again about that, then I will cancel regardless of whether I have the time or not. I’m just documenting a few of the problems I had with them. I spent 2 years with them a few years back and then they suddenly doubled my premiums because they said my state’s rates went up. Right! So I did not renew with them but went with Liberty Mutual. I had no problems with Liberty Mutual but I decided to go back to Amica this year and actually pay considerably more just because they were rated so high. Big mistake! Trust me. Beware of this bunch!

too expensive and very poor management
I purchased both car and renter’s insurance from Amica based on online reviews of excellent service and coverage, even though premiums were considerably higher than other companies. However, when the cost to add on my 19 year son to the auto coverage was exorbitant in spite of the fact he was away at college for 48 of the 52 weeks of the year, I looked into premiums at other companies. I found an equally well-rated company at a much lower price, switched to the new company, and cancelled my policies with Amica. I received a reimbursement check from Amica for the unused premium and assumed the matter was closed. Subsequently I received online notifications that a payment of $5.00 was due. Assuming this was just an incorrect leftover” from the automatic payment system, I ignored the fee. I was thus surprised when I received a notification that my account was being turned over to a credit agency for the 5 dollars. I called in, explained the situation, saying that if Amica had reimbursed me 5 dollars to much it was there problem not mine and, after a talk with a supervisor, was told that the amount had been taken off my account. Later the same day, I received a second call from the supervisor telling me that I did owe the 5 dollars but she was asking the managers in my service area to forgive the amount. The next day I received yet a third call from the supervisor saying that the Baltimore regional office would not forgive the amount as my renter’s insurance had not been cancelled–hence the 5 dollar amount–and I would indeed be turned into the credit agency if I did not pay it. AMAZING–hours of Amica management time to recover 5 dollars that was incorrectly billed in the first place–clearly one reason why Amica is so much more expensive than other similarly-rated companies. I see the 5 dollars that I have just paid by check to end the affair as affirmation that I made a very good decision to take my business elsewhere. All’s well that ends well.

This is not you dad's AMICA
I have been with AMICA for over 20 years. And for all the moves (5 different states), marriages and vehicle changes I have made, they have always been behind me. However, over the past year, customer service has been absolutely horrible. The customer service people have become very arrogant and the department should be renamed customer noservice.
The premiums for auto and life are very good and I have no issues with that. My focus is homeowners. The value of my home continues to decrease from $258,000 to $171,000, yet my homeowner’s premium increased $220 from last year and over $800 over the last 6 years. Yes, I did call them. Yes, I was treated like an idiot and yes, I was told (quite rudely) that if I did not like the price, it was time to look elsewhere. Wow!! That’s pretty rude.
The combination of very poor customer service and high homeowner’s premiums will probably force my hand to change providers within the next year.
What is my solution? A complete leadership shakeup. All who are part of the leadership; to include the CEO and ALL the vice presidents and everyone even remotely associated with customer service should be replaced.
No one at AMICA is going to listen to me. But I and other policy holders that I have talked with will speak by closing our checkbooks and wallets and going to a competitor.

Amica- Not what they used to be
When I researched a new insurance company for our home and auto, I came across Amica. They appeared to be one of the best when it came to claim handling. I never got to test that.
Unfortunately they seem to be the reverse of another insurance company parodied in a commercial.
It only took fifteen minutes to sign up, but it is taking a lot longer for someone to call back”.
With Amica, it has been- “It takes less then fifteen minutes for someone to get back to me, but it takes a lot longer to add a car or change coverage”.
Since we had coverage with Amica, we have had consistent policy error issues and customer service problems in regards to changing and adding coverage. Every time we call, we got different info, followed the next week, “apparently we made an error, your coverage will now cost this–sorry”.
We just switched all our polices to a new company, so I may be back with a better review.
