Hartford Underwriters Insurance was an insurance company based in Hartford, CT. The company has been acquired by the Hartford Insurance Group, and absorbed into the parent company. While there may still be policies written by Hartford underwriters Insurance Company, the company itself is now just a holding company within the larger corporation.

Company History
Founded in 1925, the Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company was a fire and insurance company. The company operated independently until 2010 when it was absorbed into the Hartford Group. Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company had assets in excess of 1.2 billion dollars and had operating capital of around 5 million dollars at the time of their acquisition.

Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company is not an individually rated company. Instead, the company inherits the grade of the Hartford group. As of March 21, 2012, the A.M. Best financial ratings company issued a grade of "A" (Excellent) and a long term financial outlook of "a+." It should be noted, however, that the Hartford group is currently under review by the A.M. Best Company, and their current rating is subject to change when the review ends. The Hartford group currently has assets in excess of 2 billion dollars.

Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company sold fire and casualty insurance. A majority of their policies were written for home, auto and health coverage, but the company also provided insurance policies for boat and recreational vehicles, business and commercial enterprise, and other types of insurance, including airplane insurance.
