Founded in 1925, the Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company was a fire and insurance company. The company operated independently until 2010 when it was absorbed into the Hartford Group. Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company had assets in excess of 1.2 billion dollars and had operating capital of around 5 million dollars at the time of their acquisition.
Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company is not an individually rated company. Instead, the company inherits the grade of the Hartford group. As of March 21, 2012, the A.M. Best financial ratings company issued a grade of "A" (Excellent) and a long term financial outlook of "a+." It should be noted, however, that the Hartford group is currently under review by the A.M. Best Company, and their current rating is subject to change when the review ends. The Hartford group currently has assets in excess of 2 billion dollars.
