Ocean Harbor Casualty Insurance Company has been acquired by the Great Northwest Insurance Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. In June of 2012, the A.M. Best Company downgraded the financial rating of Ocean Harbor Casualty to match the rating and long-term financial stability of the parent company. Ocean Harbor discontinued their own lines of coverage at that time and began providing insurance under the new company.

What's the company's history?

Pearl Holdings opened the Ocean Harbor Casualty insurance company to serve the state of Florida in 1994. The company only sold car insurance and was represented by independent agents. With Pearl Holdings underwriting the policies, Ocean Harbor Casualty performed well for several years, and later became mired in the collapse of 2008, which signaled the beginning of the end for the company.

What products did the company sell?

Ocean Harbor Casualty Insurance only provided personal auto insurance. They did offer a complete suite of car insurance coverage, including personal injury protection, liability insurance, and both collision and comprehensive car insurance, but not specialty or high-risk coverage. Ocean Harbor Casualty was not a source for commercial coverage or other lines of coverage, such as home, personal property, or flood insurance.

What Happened to the Company?

In 2010, Pearl Holdings and its subsidiaries, including Ocean Harbor Casualty, were bought by a larger insurance company. Unlike many insurance companies which went completely out of business, Ocean Harbor Casualty policies were transferred over the Great Northwest Insurance and continued to be honored. For Ocean Harbor policy holders, the change of ownership was transparent, suffering no interruption of coverage.
