It also gives you access to preventative care like flu shots, diagnostic tests, and regular doctor check-ins.
It’s crucial to find the right health insurance provider because healthcare can still be expensive even with coverage.
Quartz Health Solutions is a smaller insurance provider covering a few states. While it may not have the name power of more prominent companies, the Quartz health insurance company might be right for your needs.

What is Quartz health insurance?
Quartz was originally founded in 1983 in Wisconsin and has since grown to cover neighboring states Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Quartz offers four main types of health insurance: Medicare Advantage plans, individual or family plans, group or employer plans, and BadgerCare plans.
Quartz Individual and Family Health Insurance
While most Americans try to get their insurance through work, there are several reasons you might need an individual plan. Retirees, the self-employed, and workers whose company doesn’t offer coverage are typical buyers of personal health insurance.
The network of Quartz health insurance providers is substantial, with plenty of eligible doctors at the area’s top hospitals. It also has convenient tools available for your use, including:
- Health management programs, which help you manage chronic conditions
- MyChart, the Quartz health insurance login to securely access your policy information
- Health & Wellness programs that award you for healthy habits
Many Americans switched to telehealth healthcare services after Covid-19 swept the country. Quartz looks to reward telehealth visits with their Virtual First program. This program grants you access to primary and urgent care as well as behavioral health services for $0 cost-share.
The only catch? The visits need to be virtual. It doesn’t matter if it’s through your computer, tablet, phone, or smartphone – as long as you aren’t face-to-face with a doctor, it counts.
Medicare Advantage and BadgerCare
Millions of Americans depend on Medicare and Medicaid for their health insurance needs, but the plans often deny or run out of coverage. Quartz health insurance has the solution: supplement insurance.
Quartz Medicare Advantage is a type of Medicare Part C plan, which means that it picks up anything that Medicare Parts A or B miss. The Quartz Medicare Advantage stands out from other plans for certain services, such as:
- Medication reconciliation post-discharge, meaning they have a high percentage of patients whose medications are accurate and up-to-date at the time of discharge
- Breast cancer screenings – Quartz has a high rate of women between 50 and 74 who get screened for breast cancer
- Diabetic blood pressure control, where the majority of Quartz’s diabetic members have healthy blood pressure
Quartz doesn’t rest on its laurels, however. The company works hard to increase successful colorectal cancer screenings, osteoporosis management techniques, and decrease unexpected re-admission rates.
For Medicaid members, BadgerCare Plus is Wisconsin’s government-run health insurance program. You can apply for Medicaid on the Wisconsin state website. If approved, Quartz is one of the state’s insurance providers.
Quartz Group and Employer Health Insurance
Finally, Quartz has insurance plans that will work for an employer of any size. From small mom-and-pop shops to companies with thousands of employees, Quartz has you covered.
With Quartz, you can get health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), and point-of-service (POS) plans. You can also choose Quartz’s administrative services for self-funded groups. Quartz offers all these types of insurance with a promise of midwestern friendliness.
There are three primary levels of employer insurance with Quartz.
- Small companies. For companies with 50 employees or less, you can purchase commercial or POS insurance that provides access to specialty care.
- Large companies. If you have 51 or more employees, Quartz will work with you to craft the perfect plan. You can include the wellness program and the health management program.
- Self-funded. This is a highly personalized plan that lets you choose everything.
As a bonus, your employees can also access the Virtual First program.

Quartz Health Insurance Reviews
Quartz health insurance has a mysteriously small presence online regarding ratings. Part of the confusion is that Quartz Health Solutions has only recently combined into a parent company for several small companies.
For example, the Better Business Bureau gives Quartz an A+ rating, but the company is listed under Unity Health Insurance.
Quartz has rebranded the following companies into their own Quartz names:
- Unity Health Plans Insurance (now Quartz Health Benefits Plans Corporation)
- Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation (now Quartz Health Insurance Corporation)
- Gundersen Health Plan, Inc. (now Quartz Health Plan Corporation)
- Gundersen Health Plan Minnesota (now Quartz Health Plan MN Corporation)
As you might imagine, it will take some time for the new Quartz family to work out all the kinks. Quartz might catch the attention of professional rating services like A.M. Best, but they haven’t yet.
What do customers say about Quartz health insurance?
To start on a positive note, customers love the transparency of Quartz’s website. You can find detailed plan information and pricing brackets for every county they service. There’s no need to give you a generalized average cost with Quartz – you can see base Quartz health insurance quotes directly.
It can be a challenge to find information for other reviews since the company has recently changed names. For example, there are virtually no reviews for Quartz health insurance. However, you can easily find information for the original companies.
Unfortunately, many of the reviews are negative. Gundersen Health Plan (now Quartz Health Plan Corporation) has several customer complaints about claims and payments. One common theme amongst complaints is that customers suddenly find themselves in collections for bills they didn’t know existed.
Whatever happened in the past, Quartz at least seems committed to moving forward in a better light. The Quartz website has a customer satisfaction promise, and they claim to use customer relations as one of their metrics of success.
Find Midwestern Health Insurance
Even though there are negative reviews from companies that have since changed their names and joined the Quartz insurance name, it might be the best option for you. If you live in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Iowa, Quartz is at least worth checking out.
Before you buy Quartz health insurance, you should commit to shopping as many companies as possible to save money. If you’re ready to see what quotes might look like for you, enter your ZIP code into our free tool today.
