Getting ready now to file my 5th grievance letter to this horrible company because of yet another denied service which by the way I did not even know about until I was laying on a gurney, and now its going to all its fancy executives! Their consistent culture of putting profits before people is the obvious reason they are $183.5 billion company now. Their egregious business practices collude with doctors and big pharma to keep people, especially seniors in sick care instead of helping them stay healthy. There is public knowledge of this by proof of how they encourage doctors to bill a certain way with a certain medical code which includes the doctor recommending multiple meds or extra services or procedures which gives them a pat on the back and a higher fee for their services. Someone has got to expose this criminal business practice. God help this country!

Just don't
I got a plan with UHC thinking I was getting a great deal. I would pay my bill every month on time. When I would go in to see my doctor they would inform me that UHC was saying I was not current. I was basically on the phone with them every month and I couldn’t really afford to leave them and go somewhere else. The customer service was horrendous. I actually had one guy tell me that if I paid my bill I would not have these problems and I told him that I had made sure to pay my bill every month and that it was in fact on their end that there was an error. Then when they knew I was about to need surgery on my hands they dropped me and said it was due to non payment. Which wasn’t the case.

I was out of town and had an emergency care need so went to the nearest urgent care (EXER–also terrible). Exer said I had to file my own claim but that they were sure it would get paid. UHC asked for claim to be re-submitted 3 times. Then they said it would be paid minus co-pay. Then almost a year later they said the claim was denied. UHC also claimed they tried calling me twice but couldn’t reach me so too bad”. I called them back 20 times and never got a real person on the phone nor a call back that wasn’t labeled SPAM. UHC told lies for a solid year and now I give up. I can’t wait to change away from the liars that they are. Never got reimbursed after a year of showing claim forms, receipts, more documentation than filing my taxes!!!”

THE WORST HEALTH INSURANCE
I have had multiple problems with United Healthcare. It’s been a joke dealing with prescriptions, medical procedures, and misleading information. The constant misleading information has caused so many delays in medical procedures, prescriptions, and fighting for each claim to be covered. There is always some underlining reasoning of why it wasn’t covered or when I call to verify it doesn’t need a prior authorized in the end it does. United Healthcare claims they are all about their customers and last week- I sat through a United Health care meeting that explained all the wonderful stuff they provide for their customers! This is not true!

They are simply horrible
Billing is often wrong and finding a preferred” provider is almost impossible as there information about who is preferred is often dated and incorrect. So, get ready for some surprising bills. Getting referrals to “preferred” specialists is a complete hassle and you usually go to a non-preferred specialist and pay for it. Basically nothing, absolutely NOTHING! is easy with UHC

Be aware of pre-negotiated prices
I just had foot surgery on my foot just 2 weeks ago, and am now receiving a numerous amount of bills. I met my $2,000 deductible and am still paying $3,000 + out of pocket for simple foot surgery. I called and complained to UHC spokesperson as to why am I paying so much out of my own pocket? The spokesperson indicated that they pay 85% of the cost and that the rest comes from the customer/patient. I was perplexed because I have never paid so much out of my pocket, and I have had shoulder surgery, knee and Achilles Tendon surgery and have never, ever had to pay so much. Moreover, I use to be a Blue Cross Blue Shield customer for over 25 years, but switched only because I could only get a FSA (Flex Spending Account) with BCBS as to opposed with UHC which offered a HSA (Health Spending Account) which allows customers to rollover their previous year’s account balance! Other that the HSA, I would definitely not recommend UHC as an insurance company for their poor price negotiations with Healthcare providers are pushed onto the customer, which means that you’ll pay way more out of your pocket! Please be careful when choosing UHC!

Assholes left me without medical transportation for a year. I was left without life threatening medication for a year because of them. Now my health is alot worse and I hope they rot in HELL. Be seeing you in court.

This is about my wife's policy
I have guardianship over my wife. It took 5 faxes over 3 months for these totally incompetent people to enter the information into their system. When they finally did (after at least 10 phone calls) these idiot’s told me that guardianship is no good and has to be power of attorney which is completely false. This company is the world’s worst health insurance company. I was constantly misinformed and given no help whatsoever .their staff Including their supervisors are totally useless. I was paying for 2 policys my wife didn’t need for at least one year. All this company does is steal your money and refuses to help in any way. I was paying about 250 per month for my wife’s policy now I am paying ZERO no thanks to uhc. If I could afford a lawyer I would sue .much more to this story but not enough room or time.

You have mulitple options. Choose well.
We chose United Healthcare Plan F which is the most coverage. When I retired and signed up for Meidicare and private insurance my existing conditions were covered. Never a problem with this company paying. Inclusison of stage 4 cance treatments are paid.
After I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and neuropathy all by testing, doctors, therapy not covered by Medicare has been paid.
You get what you pay for. In this case I get the best with no out of pocket except the higher cost that is well worth it in my case without problems.

Is a toddler determining medical necessity?
After having surgery for metastatic melanoma, my oncologist has ordered PET scans periodically to make sure disease is not showing up elsewhere in my body. The most recent denial I received for this test actually stated it was not medically necessary. But the worst part was some uneducated imbecile actually wrote “Have a skin biopsy instead.” I was taken aback by the insulting tone of the denial. Anyone who knows anything about metastatic melanoma knows that oncologists look for recurrences in the brain, bones, liver and lungs. This is not an early stage mole on the skin and melanoma is one of the most deadly cancers of them all. I don’t know who UHC hires to determine medical necessity but might I suggest you at least find someone who knows anything at all about the medical field which relates to the requested procedure or diagnostic testing. Our insurance is employer provided and as soon as open enrollment comes around again we will be dumping UHC.

they lie to customers
I have UnitedHealthcare as my medical provider, and they are the worst. I had colon cancer and right in the middle of wearing an ostomy bag because my stoma was hanging out of me belly, and they decided not to cover adhesive removal and didn’t care if my skin was ripped from my body. Now I am going through colon cancer again and the insurance policy states that if I go to an in-network provider or facility everything would be covered once your out of pocket is reached for the year. unfortunately the in network provider sent blood tests out of network and now they insist I pay $3,000 because it’s my fault that he went out- of- network. so my advice to anyone is go to any other provider of medical insurance. Because United Healthcare is terrible.

Denies claims based on technicalities
My wife and I were forced to change over to a new policy with United (different plan, same company) midyear. Before going to see the OBGYN, my wife called to confirm that the visit would be covered, and was told she was good to go. Two months (and two visits and sets of labs later) we started to receive denials, asserting that because we hadn’t designated a PCP, UHC would not cover the exam and lab claims. I pointed out that under Affordable Care Act and the associated regulations, UHC was not permitted to require referral or authorization to visit an OBGYN. UHC replied that they weren’t requiring referral or authorization, they were simply requiring that we write down the name of the PCP (from whom we wouldn’t need to obtain a referral). In other words, they’re constructively requiring authorization. Ultimately, they admitted they’d made a mistake when they told us everything was good to go prior to the OBGYN visit, and agreed to retroactively apply the listing of our PCP to the beginning of the new plan. However, three months later we’re still receiving denials with no adequate explanation for the denial, and now they’ve forced us into second level review. UHC wasn’t our first choice, and we certainly won’t be using them again if we have any other option.

If you want to go through hoops...
My mother has been healthy till she fell a few months ago and has had multiple surgeries. Now that she is in rehab and starting to progress the United healthcare physician reviewed her chart and decided that she is as good as she is going to get and has declined us anymore skilled nursing to get her to take care of herself even though she still has several more weeks that the plan allows. The skilled nursing facility has been submitting progress reports showing her progress but that is not enough. Hopefully the doctor never has to be in a facility and have some insurance doctor in a cubicle somewhere tell him that he isn’t going to get any better and so they just write him off and let him and his family fend for themselves

3 hours on phone with 3 different people all didn’t have a clue and had no answers why they stopped paying for my cpap equipment.Put you on hold and never return since they have no answers.We will be switching next year.Horrible !!!

Absolute Theives, Cost me Thousands of Dollars
My wife was recommended and approved for eye surgery by UHC ( as told by the eye doctors office). She had the surgery and UHC denied all payments after the fact on the grounds that the recommendation occurred in June and the surgery was performed in July. They labeled it a pre-existing condition! What a joke they are so cheap the most they ever paid on my regular doctor visits was $20 on a $159 bill. This happened every time my wife had to have a medical visit or procedure. It literally cost me thousands in lost premiums, deductibles and denied coverage. Do not ever choose this company for any reason they are thieves and their story changed every time I called them or sent in letters. Possibly the worst med ins company in America. A complete ripoff. I strongly recommend that you do not buy insurance from them no matter what they offer. Their premiums are lies, their coverages are lies and you will have the worst time of you life dealing with them. Paying more would be better than choosing this company because they will wind up costing you more in the end, trust me.

It is company policy and it has been good until I needed to go on short term disability and there they fall short. the claims were paid but never ob time. We have been waiting for 2-3 weeks every time for our weekly payment for 4 months and this has put me back on paying my bills and now again we are behind by 3 weeks and were told each week and today they just sent the check out to be printed and it will go in the mail Monday 9/23/2019 and I won’t get it for another 5-7 days. They are screwing with my credit. They want their payment on time but don’t care about me paying my mortgage on time. They need to be held accountable but I have no idea where to go for that. Like I said, for me the only shortcoming is their disability dept. Medical claims has been fine.

Call Center Usless
We called UnitedHealthcare customer service. We were looking for a podiatrist that was tier 1″ because otherwise an office visit is $160. Keep in mind we currently pay almost $20,000 a year for this policy. (For 2 people.)
We got a call center obviously in India. The person was very hard to understand, and he knew less about the question than we did. Every question was responded to with “let me speak with my ex-pat manager. Anyway, he never could help us find a doctor, but even worse, at the end of the call this person recommended my wife have a colonoscopy. First, she is NOT due one for several years. Second, I really don’t want to hear medical advice from a call center guy in India. If you have a choice, DONT pick UnitedHealthcare unless poor healthcare at expensive prices is what you want.

not happy
my complain is that the transportation is bad .
The company they are using is terrible. The People who is running the transportation change every thing,the drivers mostly all of them left the company. They do not have enough drivers to give us the service we need. We have lost a few appointment, medica is one of the best but they do not send them and they send some else to pick us up either they dont come or they come late. I call transportation and is a waste of time. The new changes are not working if this keeps up we will change to another company. Fire this man running Miami…………

I finally met the $3,000 deductible for them to turn around and take the money back from the doctor and ask for more medical information therefore making my deductible not be met. The procedure was a biopsy of my breast to see if it was cancerous. This is being done simply because they are having to finally pay on my doctor bills after 3 years. The only reason we have their crappy insurance to begin with is because it’s all my husbands employer carries

I am the agent trying to get claims paid mfor my client. All they ever say is required documentation never received. They received everything multiple times. They have no intention of paying any claims. AVOID! This is not insurance. It’s a scam.

Worst experience ever
I bought the policy between jobs and needed to see a doctor so I bought temporary. When I tried to get a doctors appt the wait times were huge or they were not accepting new clients on temp insurance. I called everyone within 50 miles of my home from the doctors list on uhone website. Finally one of the nurses told me that they have a hard time collecting payments from United on this type of policy. In the end I had to go to a free clinic to be seen. Completely demoralizing and embarrassing as I make six figures annually. So I immediately cancelled my policy and 20 days later still have not been refunded. They said it takes 5-15 business days to give a refund. What a joke. I would not recommend them to anyone and now tell everyone to stay away from them like the plague. Don’t waste your money this company is terrible!

Pharmaceutical & Preauthorization's

I have never had so much frustration from an insurance company trying to get my medications, the preauthorization process which has already taken 4 weeks because they continually request one more thing from the doctors over & over. Then after you have the preauthorization’s & go to fill your medications they deny the preauthorization number that they just issued you & tell you that they need to reevaluate the previous authorizations as a whole & your doctor now needs to make a direct call & provide the same information in order for United to issue a new preauthorization for the already preauthorized medications; have I lost you yet? Ya me too, as well as my Doctor being frustrated with United (they are now evaluating whether to accept new patents covered through United due to this garbage), my Pharmacy has had it with them, all have said they have never had so much problem with an insurance company. We are now going on two months in this review process for medications that I have been on for 10 years, something is wrong with their system. I don’t have enemies but you know how they say “I would not wish them on my worst enemy” I would have to wish them on themselves. I was once on Medicaid & in my humble option these guys are 10 times worse, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM & would advise you to RUN THE OTHER WAY!!! JR Giles

I have health insurance with United Healthcare , they only want to pay very little for out of network service, but they put most important service as their out net work, such as Emergency ambulance and Emergency doctors service, But we paid very expensive insurance , we expect them help us to pay our Hospital bills when we get sick and emergency condition . when I was on emergency situation i don’t have conditions to check if the doctor and ambulance in network or not in network with United Healthcare. It’s seems United Healthcare take advantage of patient on emergency condition has no ability to nogotiat about network service , our plan for Out of pocket limit is$3500, but they put ambulances and emergency doctors as out of net work, so I got bills more than $8000.

Very very very disapointed
I was on emergency on 01/01/2019 and 01/07/2019, I have to pay more than $8,000.00 bills for these emergency, due to more than $5,000.00 is out of net work ambulance and emergency doctor service. My question is We bought insurance due to we can’t offer hospital cost, that’s mean’s if we got sick, we need insurance to help us to pay the bills, seems united health care just take advantage of patient, who’s on emergency have no ability to negotiation with ambulance and emergency doctor if they are in net work or out of net work, and most of them are out of net work as I have been told by United health care insurance.but Insurance should responsible to fix this problem, Patient shouldn’t pay this mach bills.

What a JOKE
I can’t wait to go back to AETNA! I never use my dental plan & I’ve had some horrible tooth pain in 4 spots of my mouth & found out I need my 4 wisdom teeth removed so my dentist sent the request to United Health Care and it was denied. Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most BASIC issues that I pay for coverage for! I don’t have a cheap plan either btw. Now I have to suffer for who knows how long because I have to file an appeal with my dentist. I cant live daily life because these teeth hurt like hell. I see why most people and businesses are cutting you guys off and I can’t wait to be one of them! You suck!!!

Incompetent bunch of boobs
After receiving LTD for about a year, I just received a letter that they wanted almost all of the money they paid me returned. $27650.00!
When I was injured at work, I received STD for about 6 months and when that ran out and I could no longer work at any light-duty posts at work, I was forced to choose between retiring early or being terminated and losing my health insurance benefits. I chose to retire early. I could still survive but it would be tight. I got a call from UHC Specialty Benefits who handled the STD claim. She was asking me about LTD and I told her that I just put in my retirement papers so, thinking that was going to be the end of our conversation, she went on to tell me that I could still collect my pension and receive LTD up to 100% of my Pre-Disability salary. I said, Sign me up!”.
Big mistake.
After a year I got a letter stating that they had made an error and my pension offset my LTD payments and they overpaid me over $27,000. That was roughly 80% of what they actually paid me. So now that I had already spent the money, I had to borrow from family and they have made my life very difficult. I have no legal recourse since I guess it is in the policy that they can do this.
They are the most dishonest,deceitful,incompetent boobs I have ever dealt with.

I HATE THIS INSURANCE
This is the company and Plan through my employer. It is horrible. They deny almost all of medications that were approved with BCBS, my co pay is horrible, there is no way to pay the deductible. My company did their employees wrong by changing to them. It has made my life very difficult. I hate this insurance but have no choice to be stuck with it!!!!!!!

Women with Breast Cancer Beware!!
Attention Women With Breast Cancer…UHC is NOT behind women with Breast Cancer and will fight you every step of the way NOT to pay when you have exhausted every provider they insist you see. I thought our company had excellent coverage and pay a very high price for it for each of us and now to only learn when it comes down to pay for services they will run the other way…Even our insurance broker is at a loss for words as to how I have been treated with my breast cancer…To the point where we have had to file a formal complaint with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance and the Virginia Department of Health!!! UHC will continue to put you through more hell then just the hell of your cancer and treatments you must go through!!! I am fighting with every ounce of energy and life I have left in me for my care and it is falling on deaf ears. UHC only cares about their bottom line and not patient care!!! Additionally, don’t even bother with their cancer support program…useless and a total waste of time!!!

Worst Customer Service
The customer service line wait is over 60 min.; paid first premium on Oct 3rd immediately sends me a letter stating the next withdrawal payment will be Oct. 15th – tried to call and change this double payment of one plan in two weeks no response. The online registration doesn’t recognize my id number? My broker can’t assist either, they called and tried. Its Friday now and the money will be taken out of my Acct come Monday – worst customer services ever.

Not to be trusted
I travel often between NY and HI and was advised to sign up on their so called “Passport” Option. It turns out there are numerous procedures one has to follow when you travel! The problem is, when I had a question, it always took me a long time to get hold of an agent, worse yet, depends on the agent’s own knowledge, they provide different answers to the same question. The very worst is, since the procedure is so complicated that even their own agents do not fully understand. Almost all my reimbursement requests were rejected for one reason or another. Bottom line is: UnitedHealth Care Customer Service agents only care about how to provide an execuse to reject t your claims, they have no interests in providing customer care. If I can give a negative rating, I would! Buyers be aware!!!

Horrible coverage
UHC calls a preventive procedure, diagnostic so they can make customer pay the deductible on top of their monthly premiums. Seems like it’d be cheaper to go with out any insurance.

cancelled policy without explanation
Unitedhealthcare issued a policy for me and my son, cancelled the coverage without notification, without explanation. They failed to provide any reason to my deceased wife’s former employer Liberty Mutual and their employee benefits administration.

Worst Customer Care-less ever!
Stay away from this company! Their customer service reps are very poorly trained. No clue when it comes to side benefits such as Dental and Optical. They constantly transfer you to other depts. When filing a claim, they give you the wrong PO Box, probably to delay payment. Providers tear their hair out trying to file for me. They can’t stand UHC.Last call was with a supervisor who blocked me from taking a survey after the call. (Probably a good move.)

denial of coverage
I had an aggressive squamous cell carcinoma. I waited over a month for approval for a surgeon. I never received it so I sought treatment myself. They refused to reimburse me because I did not see a network surgeon. If I waited I wouldn’t be writing this review. They’re more interested in saving money than saving someone’s life!

About as useful as an Umbrella in a Windstorm
This was the only option available with my new employer. Its an HMO with a high deductible. They drag their feet on every claim that you submit. You get the run around on referrals. They do not disclose any information as to why they deny your claims as a stalling tactic. I have never had this much of a problem with health insurance. You will jump through more hoops than a circus just to get some standard procedures done. I don’t know how doctors deal with them. They deny everything. I am not trying to get them to approve illicit drugs or some service I don’t need or haven’t been diagnosed with. I just wanted to get my CPAP titration study done so that I can breathe at night at stop waking up out of my sleep. The customer service people are friendly and don’t tell you much as they seem to be protecting their greedy useless company. The next job I negotiate for, I will find out if they have United Health Care and I will opt out and take my chances on the market. I have never been treated so poorly by an insurance company. terrible in network choices
emergency surgery from an in network hospital used an out of network surgeon, they did not cover in it network and I cannot find an in-network specialist for the follow up. The year changed so now the follow up is subjected to the new 20,000 deductible again and I am sure this is by design. Emergency rooms are in network but no surgeons/radiologists/anesthesiologists are -so buy the insurance but don’t get sick. pick a different company or skip insurance because that is what you get if you buy here

Denied my husband
In November I sign my self and husband up for insurance. I sent in papper work. I did not here,from the company. In the beginning of January we got our cards and the took money out of my pay check. The end of January I got a letter saying they were dropping my husband for insufficient papper work. I called the number. I was on hold for ever. I finally talked to someone who told me the papper work was there but my marriage was a little blurry so the system flag it. I was yo send amother copy I did. The still have not reinstated him. It is end of April. I called several times all they can tell me is the papper work is there they can see but he is still denied. I can not talk to the depart that made the decision because they do not talk to customer only Customer service people do and they can only tell me what the computer says.

The provider denies most prescriptions
As a NC state retired employee, my only option was United Healthcare. Since I’ve been on this plan, my prescriptions have been routinely denied. I am also forced to pay copays even for nurse visits. Customer service is nonexistent with this mega company.

WORSE INSURANCE
This COMPANY (before my signing contract with THEM) told me (male agent) That NOTHING would change from my OTHER plan from ANOTHER INSURANCE COMPANY (ie: Cigna Health Insurance), and YET is DID (ie: medication covered by Cigna Insurance, UnitedHealthCare Insurance sent me a letter stating that medication would not be covered by them (yet NOTHING was SUPPOSE to NOT CHANGE), in CONTRACT signed with THEM UnitedHealthCare I was PROMISE (in SIGNED contract) of a Productions of over the counter meds (etc. medical) and NEVER received the card (called the persona agent whom came to my home for signature on contract – NEVER RECEIVED a RETURN CALL from HIM), upon THEIR CONNECTING to the PERSONS (Company) it is in the mail (YET NEVER RECEIVED), also UPON calling UnitedHealthCare Insurance about it, it was ALWAYS NOT THEIR DEPARTMENT (but THEY are THE ONES whom offered THIS and TOLD of IT. NO-ONE ELSE TOLD OF IT! SPOKE with THREE PLACES about it to THEM and TWO OTHERS (they UNITEDHEALTHCARE transferred me to and YET EACH gave SOME EXCUSE. When ONE get a lot of EXCUSES (especially from different people for the same thing) THERE IS A LIE FORMED SOMEWHERE. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! I NOW returned to my PREVIOUS Insurance Company (for MY GOOD)!!!”

terrible claim service
just awful! they routinely deny treatment. they denied a routine test ordered by the treating physician saying a biopsy was needed first because that is their protocol. treating doctor said test was needed before biopsy to see if disease had spread–possible implications for life or death. Doctor did peer to peer review and it was still denied. Doctor is one of the preeminent surgeons in the state and department head at major university. apparently the UHC peer to peer person knows more! this is only of several issues we have had with United. They make Time Warner Cable look good!

High cost, no benefit
We have an HSA plan. It is the only option available to us. We do not choose it on our own. The cost goes up every year, but we really receive no benefit at all from it. We have a 4000 deductible so everything up to that point is all on us. I had to recently go to the ER and was billed by an out of network doctor (illegal in some states). When I called to see what my options were, the customer service person kept giving me conflicting answers. First she said the doctor was in network, then she said he wasn’t. First she said my personal deductible was 2000 then she said we just have a family deductible of 4000. I went to the ER upon referral from the urgent care and now all the bills are costing me about 2500 and the problem was not fixed. I still have the same problem, five weeks later. I still have the problem, could just up and die from it, and now I’m out 2500. I don’t see how this is fair, or legal. This is a sad, sad state of our healthcare system.

Chaos or Indifference?
This is not my first go round with United Healthcare, just the most recent. The previous legitimate and correctly filed claims took a full year of going through eighteen of their representatives and supervisors before I finally got paid. The chaos and buck-passing was truly awesome, and to give UHC credit, they have perfected the art.
The most recent scam involves a simple yearly Well Check visit for a child, $185.00. The contract states there is no charge for these visits and they even sent out flyers reminding us to have the checks performed. I have been fighting with them since June 2017 and it is now February 2018. Payment is promised, never shows up, then denied, then promised again. That’s okay though… I own my company and when renewal time comes I will laugh out loud when they come around to re-sign. All for $185.00.
*So if anyone is paying attention in United Healthcare Land and would like to address these shameful business practices with me, my phone number is 843-826-6121. HORRIBLE SUPERVISOR BECKY K 154
My son has medicaid and he had an appointment to bee seen by his dentist. We don’t have dentists nearby that accept Medicaid so I had to schedule transportation services, considering that I’m disabled myself and that the facility where we had to go is an hour away. So I did, I called Medicaid and they booked the service for the right day. However, they called me back the next day to tel me that I had to book it through United Health Care and that’s when my nightmare started. So I called United and they told me that because it was not a medical emergency, they couldn’t book the trip, that it was too late. I explained to Dotty H and Becky K that the delay was because I was not given the right information and that I couldn’t reschedule the appointment for a near date, considering that they take forever to schedule an appointment for Medicaid patients. I also explained to them that even it’s not a life threatening event, my son has a real problem with his teeth and that he also had already a cavity but they just didn’t care at all. I’m changing my son out of United Health Care because they are actually United We Don’t Care. All their customer service people are trained to not give their names and their service is all but caring. Very horrible and frustrating experience. That’s when you see a different treatment when you’re a disabled person who sadly depends on Medicaid.

Do not purchase
I recently registered for UHC. Very poor service. The technology the insurer uses is antiquated: freezes etc. : was told they were having problems”. All I have been trying to do is find a internal med doctor. Newly moved. I spent hours trying to find someone who would take the insurance and was accepting new patients. Every bit of information UHC provided on phone or on-line was incorrect. One provider told me that UHC’s information is totally out of date. I went with UHC because of AARP recommendation. Have come to realize that AARP is just sales company pretending to be a service company. Cant wait to leave UHC and AARP.

Waste of money
Costs me around $300 a month, and they have not paid anything. They play the blame game and with the doctors, and don’t like to be called out on thier lies. I’m a manager in charge of 30+ techs. I guarantee they will know of my dissatisfaction during open enrollment. Waste of my money, can’t help but feeling robbed.

CHOOSE ANYONE ELSE
Called United Healthcare twice prior to visiting the doctor for a birth control consult to ensure it would be covered in full. I was, assured it would be. Got a $250 bill in the mail. Spent months trying to get it fixed only to be given several contradicting bogus excuses about why they are not responsible for paying it. I am switching providers and urge others to choose anyone else besides this awful company. THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER. I’m just thankful I learned on a bill that’s only a couple hundred dollars, not several thousand….

First and only words this carrier knows is deny. With this insurance company you will spend more time on the phone getting bills covered than what the insurance is worth. Another 2 missed hours of work today to pick up a family prescription only to have United Health deny coverage of the prescription and I am sure an hour on the phone tonight to get them to cover it.They make it impossible for anyone to get any value from their health coverage.

I get migraines sadly a lot. The Rizatriptan pills helps so much that I don’t loose work or suffer. Up until this year I could only get 12 pills a month. I could cope with that. But now I can only get 4. Yeah just 4. So suffer very much and be in pain? They have made it very clear that they could care less,…. And oh I have to pay them to do this to me.
They said to contact my doctor to get him to give me more. That makes no sense at all. !2 pills a month is not many, not many at all. So why force the doctor to add more to the 4 limit. They probably will only allow him to give me 5 pills but never 12.
Plus I strongly strongly suspect that the 4 or 5 pills will cost what the 12 before did, about 150.
Do not trust them, they could care less about us. They really only care about us paying them to be mean to us.
Wish there were negative stars available. If my migraines take over my life. I may decide that it’s time for pain to end. Thanks United Hate Care …………. United HeathCare. You’ve made life so bad and you probably laugh all the time.

I do not have to have any referrals to see any doctor/specialist. I have no co-payments at any doctor’s office. Very helpful with any problems which is usually something that I don’t understand. I have a registered nurse who contacts me every 2-3 weeks to find out how I am doing, changes in meds, any new health problems. The nurse is very helpful and informative. My only problem is the high cost, but I guess it’s goes back to the saying You get what you pay for.””

Worst insurance company I've ever had to deal with
September 2017
This policy was chosen by my husband’s employer and is the worst company I’ve ever had to work with.
We have been with them for a little over two years. They have paid one claim to each of two doctors I have seen during this entire time. I’ve called, the doctor’s billing departments have called and they refuse to help. Every claim has been denied and they refuse to pay and none of can ever speak to anyone that can/ will help us understand what they need or why they’re of paying. They keep saying they need full medical records and they have been sent repeatedly and denied repeatedly.
Yesterday I received a call from my doctor office and they are now refusing further medical care. I have a chronic health condition for which I am required to see the doctor once a month and they cannot by law treat or prescribe my medication without seeing me.
At this point I am unsure what I am going to do. This may possibly be a situation that ends my life. My doctor is going to turn it over to their attorney but I could be dead before they get a resolution.
If you have ability to choose your insurance provider please make certain you choose another company

Horrible Health Insurance. expensive. Bad coverage
I have United Health Care through my company. I HATE it. It is so expensive out of my pocket, and I know my company pays a lot more than I do. The coverage is not great. I have a family of 3. The claims for my son and my husband routinely get denied. They seem to think that they know better what to provide you than your doctor does (the one that actually met with you, examined you and determined the right treatment). I have had to make several appeals for denials of service over the last year and a half. It is crazy all the work you have to go through to have them pay claims. Plus the recent two appeals got denied again. So more money out of my pocket! The larger items, are only covered with 50-60 % so you have to pay a bunch there too. Don’t even get me started on the prescription coverage (it’s even worse!). I have tried to look at new insurance, but because my company offers health insurance, I was told that when I went to the marketplace, I would not qualify for any credits. Really tight spot to be in. I wish I could just fire” them. Beware of United Healthcare. Not a good insurance company to deal with.

Now I understand why UHC has bad reputation. I only got routine eye exam that is covered by insurance company. But later they said that the eye exam fee will be covered when the exam result shows the eyes are perfect. I have to pay exam fee because I got diagnosis myopia even though I did not get any treatment. Policy never mentioned that exam result should be perfect to get coverage.

Very disapppointed.
I have had United Healthcare for at least14 years through my employer and have been very satisfied with my health care coverage until now. I have sought treatment for alcohol dependence through an intensive outpatient program to get sober and save my life and my family. I am in my 8th week of a ten week program and have been sober for 30 days and feel the best I have felt in years. Last week I was told by my treatment program director that United Healthcare has only approved 19 sessions of a 30 session program and they felt that this program was just like an inpatient program and they wouldn’t approve more than 19 sessions. My program director said that this is common with United Healthcare and they often deny full coverage for substance abuse recovery programs. I had to already pay $640.00 out of my own pocket for this program to meet my out of pocket maximum and I don’t know how im going to be able to pay for the 11 remaining sessions. This is very frustrating I have always felt that I had the best health insurance around that cared about its customers. But in this instance they clearly do not. They pay to get my started and well into my treatment than they say sorry we will not cover you for the remainder of your treatment that in my case if very important for my well being. I guess they only care about making money off me not fulfilling their responsibility to cover me for treatment I so greatly need. Im so disappointed in you United Healthcare.

UHC has highest premiums but pays NEXT to nothing.
Surgery: UHC did not pay anesthesiologist-we checked and double checked that we were getting in-network facilities and doctors. One anesthesiologist had to cover for another unbeknownst to me (I was under) – UHC refused to pay. UHC also did not pay my mammogram radiologist. Our premiums tripled this year; we have doctors and hospitals that were dropped by UHC in January, so we have to pay out of pocket to them. UHC’s CEO made record profits this year because this is how they treat their members: charge them outrageous premiums, refuse to pay when members need to use their insurance; drop hospitals, facilities, and doctors mid-year so members are forced to pay UHC and pay out-of-pocket to doctors. UHC is unethical; they force you to hold their insurance a year, yet they drop your doctors and hospitals soon after your contract begins. They do not honor your contracts-if there is another insurance option for you, choose the other option.

Worst claim service ever
My policy states I have no maximum number of visits for chiropractic care, but then they deny claims stating I’ve exceeded my maximum number of visits. I filed an appeal only to receive a denial response that says my appeal was not an appeal. What an incompetent company. Policy clearly states coverages and they come back and deny coverage. Call customer service and they tell me there is no one I can talk to about this I can only send a letter. This has been going on for 4 months and yet I can’t talk to anyone about it, they refuse to let me talk to anyone when I ask to talk to someone who can help me. Complete incompetence.

If they pay zero every claim, what am I paying for
Unfortunately I can only get UHC through my employer. I have found that the RX program is a complete scam, and that they indeterminately do not cover medications taht other companies do, or their tier structure is backwards. For medical claims, I had charges for 200 for an xray, they right off 130 (pay 0) and I have to pay 70. When going to urgent care, it would have been cheaper to be un-insured and use the billing structure then to submit to UHC> I paid 54 dolars more than an un-insured person would have paid. I am not sure what my premiums are paying for. They pay zero for every claim, and I get stuck with the bill and the monthly premium. And the quality of doctors that they cover is SUBSTANDARD. I have started looking for a new job that offers a different health insurance carrier.y

Bad if you choice to get short term disability
Have a surgery,hoping that I have short term disability wish is suppose to help paying bills,cars etc. Till u come back to work but no is been a month and have recive anything the lady that have my case was caned of forcingme to go back to work and do my job with restrictions she also call my empleyer to tell them to put me to work with restriction,doctor gived me 6 weeks and United healthcare wanted me to come back to work 2 weeks after I had my surgery so they dont have to pay me anything wish is not fare for me been paying this insurance for 5 years and when I need it dont get anything,I just come back to work and still waiting have to go with doctor to get a note to come back at early time couse my bills and stuff was on top of my haed already.

Warning!!!!! if you choose United Health Care
As of now have been on hold for 2 hours 12 min. , 25 sec. and counting. At this point I’m just waiting toes how long they will actually take. When I first called they said that the wait time was 8 mins!!!!! They charge A LOT for very little coverage. They denied medical equipment that my Dr. prescribed!! Very high copayment for drugs. I don’t have the time to talk about all of it. Do not even consider it.

You'll receive minimal care
You’ll never know what your missing unless you’ve worked in the health care field as a manager,provider, or director. United covers only minimal poor quality care and services. Even with one of their top plans, they must approve EVERY doctors recommendation for such things as surgery, diagnostics etc. You will get the run around and the denials will make no sense.
Diagnostics must be provided by their network labs and imaging services, which are typically bottom of the barrel. None! None of my doctors will contract with United. Among Healthcare professionals United Healthcare is everyone’s nightmare.
For a middle-aged couple, a mid-grade plan will result in out-of-pocket expenses as high as $44,000 per year. We can thank the government for some of this but they are not solely to blame. I could not in good conscience work at, nor recommend United to anyone.
Find a provider that offers flexibility. By this I mean things like, no pre-approval, a full sleep study, ice machine after surgery, longer stay time in a care facility, seeing a doc daily or when needed as inpatient, getting the right amount physical therapy instead of a set number of days, and medication that is consistent ( even generic meds can change monthly because the pharmacy will buy from a different manufacturer- the medication is equivalent but not the same and can have unfortunate effects.). These are just some of the things that you will be missing and you won’t even know it until you need them. United Healthcare is the worst worst worst worst. Don’t use it, not even as supplemental.

My wife hurt her back in April 2016 and finally got an MRI went to see Dr and he said bone spur against nerve needs to be removed. That’s when United Health care started stalling. If you are a CalPers member go somewhere else nothing but trouble here.

Pharmacy through OptumRX is useless
The UHC pharmacy portion is a joke. 5 prescriptions medications, 3 are the same price with or without insurance (I used a coupon, rather than submitting through insurance, for a better price). The mail order feature that could save you hundreds of dollars a year,” and “trips to the pharmacy,” after 3 weeks I had to give up on. OptumRX doesn’t accept electronically submitted scripts from University of California Davis, Medical Center? Of the 2 remaining prescriptions, 1 is not covered at all ($1296.00) for a 90-day supply and the 5th, (last) prescription is not eligible for mail-order? My out-of pocket prescription costs went from $120 a month at my local grocery store to over $1400 a month with my own coupons at 2 different locations. The only money and time saved is at UHC’s end. They don’t have to do anything, which I am sure suits them just fine, collect my premiums and provide no services? If you want to pay for your own prescriptions and clip coupons to redeem at multiple locations this is your company! If you want prescription drug coverage I STRONGLY urge you to look elsewhere, this company is slow to respond, “cherry picks” what is and is not covered, and in the long run the policyholder pays much more out of pocket. The medical portion of coverage I can not yet comment on, aside from the co-pay is 33% higher for a family practice office visit. Thankfully I was not due for my annual screening labs and mammogram. Summary: I would be better served if I applied for “California Care; lower premiums and lower deductibles/co-pays!

They “change formularies” when they think your medications are too expensive. They decide (not YOUR DOCTOR) which medications you should/should not use. Their query responses are arrogant and condescending. They gleefully reject claims.

Waste of money
I have never had to file a claim with UHC until March 15, 2016. I was hit by a driver who never stopped while riding my bike. UHC refused to pay my medical bills until I was able to hire a lawyer, then they payed only a minimal amount. My lawyer was able to get a small amount of money from the state for people hit by uninsured drivers. Now UNH has put a lien against me because they are assholes. I was out of work for 6 months and made it threw living on my savings and credit cards. Now they want to take what little money I have left and what the state is giving me to help pay my bills. Why did I bother to get insurance? Do not buy insurance for this company you can’t trust them.

Inadequate
I set up autopay and it worked for 2 months. A couple months after that, I find out my account was terminated. No notice. Nothing. I get the account reinstated…or did I? One person tells me yes, another tells me technically no. 3 conversations later, I’m told I am covered through this month, but my account hasn’t been reinstated. What? Poor customer service. Terrible business practice. Unacceptable.

Great company
My wife’s company was bought out and we had to move from Cigna to Unitedhealth care. Shortly after the switch I had major brain surgery at a top neurological center in Phoenix by a world renounce surgeon. I received 2 bills in the mail one for the neurological institute and the other from the hospital. After my deductible was met I was responsible for about $600.00 dollars total. The hospital bill was 145k and the surgeons bill was about 20k. Had non problem with United at all. Great company wasn’t sure how the switch was going to be, but very satisfied.

A bunch of scammers!!!!
On August 8 I found out that my coverage had been cancelled in April, when I called and asked why they said because they had not received any payments” even though I paid every month faithfully. So I told the representative that they would not be receiving another dime from me, hung up, and called money gram to see if the money order possibly got lost. The money order was listed as “outstanding” on the 8th. On August 18th I called money gram again and the same money order that “they had not received” was listed as being cashed on the 9th of August, the day after I told her they wouldn’t be getting any more money from me. Coincidence? I think not. I think they were just hoping I’d repay! Do not do business with these scammers! The insurance is crap and so is the customer service. Now I’m waiting to see if they’ll really send my refund”

I am an amputee, have been for 26 years, I have had 5 legs built in that time, never a question or problem until I had united oxford as my insuror, I wont bor you with what had to occur over an 18 month period to get my nw leg but I had to hire an attorney at my expense to finally get it done. All because SOME IDIOT DICIDED IT WAS NOT MEDICALLY NECESSARY !!!!! i WORK CONSTRUCTION, RUN HEAVY MACHINERY MY LAST LEG( 2 YRS PAST ITS LIFE EXPECTANCY WAS FALLING APART, aND IT WAS NOT NECESSARY !!! So i should sit home in a whelchair? The worst bar none !! $ appeals later my lawyer brought them before the state to make them give me a leg, Thats what I pay almost 2k a month for? Stay away from this BS company

Dropped my drs and hospitals in mid year
I do NOT recommend United Healthcare. They dropped our doctors and hospitals in JULY of my annual contract with United. Had they been transparent about negotiations with my regions hospital, I could have made a more informed healthcare decision. My doctors and hospital are now out of network. And they pay 0 towards my appointments. When choosing my insurance I checked that my doctors were indeed in network. I placed calls to united to verify, and was assured they were.
New nearest hospital and drs that are in network are 2 hours away. They have no concern for patients, only their profit. It is unethical and unacceptable to treat patients as they do. We are stuck with virtually no insurance for 6 more months, yet we continue to be charged monthly dues.

Truly awful at handling wrong claims
I have spent so many hours on chat and on the phone with over 7 different people who seemingly can’t understand my problem. I’ve had to explain it so many different times. I’ll give you a couple examples.
Today (the final straw), I finally got through to a supervisor who understood my issue – that the bill I received from my doctor was billed as medical, not preventative. The UHC employee said they’d handle it. They called the doctor, and when the doctor said it was medical, they *just accepted the doctor’s word for it*. They didn’t try to argue my case (that it was my annual physical, it was obviously preventative). They just said oh okay” and called me. When I said they were wrong, they acted all surprised even though I had *just explained this to them on the phone*.
Other times I have completely explained my problem in chat, with dates and bill amounts, only fifteen seconds later to have my chat representative ask for the dates and bill amounts. It’s like no one is listening at all.
I had to end up paying the claim because it had been four months and was about to start hitting my credit score.

Very unpleasent expeirence
I had the worst experience ever with UnitedHealthcare. During the year 2015, I was covered by Aetna health care and I would say that I had a pleasant experience with them. Unfortunately, my employer made a contract with United Healthcare, choice plus plan at the beginning of 2016 and that was the beginning of the nightmare to every employee. What happens (half the time) is that they will decline the claims and then, you will have to fight to get them to pay for basic covered services by your plan. They will request information from you and they will claim that they have not received anything so they do not pay and will continue to do that until you give up and pay it yourself. Since the beginning of 2016 until today, I spent more than $6000 from my own pocket for claims which UnitedHealthcare refused to pay because I have not provided them with the requested information from January until today :). If you can find another insurance then, do not hesitate ever, this is the advice from my providers.

The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. My family plan had only $250 deductible and 1500 out of pocket. However that their claims give us a very hard time, they usually refuse to pay any claim and usually find a non-sense excuse.

Billed even after notice of cancellation
My premium increase after 1st year and again for third year until the cost of the insurance was more than a full years supply of medications. I sent a cancellation notice. No Response just past due bills. I called. NO help there. Just a run around. I wrote No Response. Finally I wrote to Attorney General of Georgia. Got a response from there. They have many complaints. I told United to sue. They could not face me so threatened with collection agency.. Over $142.00 that I never owed. Beware. They are the worst ever.

Bait and Switch
Beware of UHOne. Although it terms itself United Health Care (individual health policies), these policies are actually administered by Golden Rule insurance, which is known for providing more limited coverage and has more restrictive networks.
The UHOne policy claims to use the UHC Choice Plus Network, but only once you sign up do you find out that their version of this network, although named the same, has a more restrictive provider list than other UHC Choice Plus Networks. Now you are locked in for a year with less coverage than you thought you were paying for. Also, you have to pay for all drugs up front and submit bills for them to reimburse later. Don’t trust what their customer service reps tell you–I have had 4 different people mislead me in the same way as their web info does–they do NOT use the full UHC Choice Plus Network!

Awful, we had problems with them the whole year. First my son was born at the hospital where my doctor has his office, that’s the only hospital he delivers babies. When I asked if we were covered I got the confirmation only to find out at the hospital next day after birth of my son that the doctor was covered but not the hospital stay! Later he needed a surgery, took me a long time to make sure that we were covered pick the right doctor and the hospital, everything was covered, we only had $369.00 out of pocket, than a year later we are getting a bill $2600.00, insurance paid but then took money back from the anesthesiologist who is reverse sending bill to me!. You can’t have someone, a year later keep responsible for the bills that you paid! I went through very long process to make sure we were covered. I have had insurance for 23 years, never have I ever experience something like that with any other insurances.

Worst Provider on the Market
There is no generic of my birth control available. Under the Affordable Care Act if this is the case the insurance company must provide the brand name. They made me file an appeal. I get all the details of exactly what they need, I then contact a woman’s rights law office to make sure I do it correctly. It took a month for them to process (even though it was marked urgent). I call regularly to get the results asap- they cannot tell me anything over the phone. I finally get a letter in the mail that my appeal was denied and they need a letter from the doctor. My doctor had sent them a letter almost a month prior. They tell me there’s nothing I can do- I can’t speak with the appeal department. In the mean time I try to get a list of birth controls available at no cost to me. After an hours I am provided with one. (getting disconnected, having to call back, one rep can’t figure out where the list is online and can’t email it or fax it to me, then their manager is finally able to guide me to it). I get my doctor to prescribe me one that is on the list. Then call the pharmacy the next day and the charge is $77.99. I call UHC back- they say there is no list. I have been on hold now for 30 minutes trying to find out what is available to me at no copay.

Why am I being charged for using my insurance?
The thing that I cannot understand is the amount of money I am paying for insurance; and that money does not even go to what I need insurance for (doctor/hospital visits). I pay a weekly fee for coverage along with a co-pay every time I go to the doctors, and if they need to run some test. United Healthcare only covers about 50% of the costs. Do not use this insurance unless it is your only option, like most other insurance companies they are greedy.

Canceled PCP
Canceled Ochsner in our state as a health care provider after they couldn’t agree on a contract. This is the only real healthcare option in our area and has been for a while. This is after only 4 months being with them. No warning , nothing. Seems disingenuous at best, fraudulent at worst. Why didn’t they tell us this was a liklihood before signing us up.

they do not and will not pay any claims, I don’t know how they can get away with this. I get a different excuse from them every time I call to see why my claim is not being paid, literally a different excuse each time. I will not renew , and changing insurance is the worst financial mistake of my life.

POOR SERVICE
I am waiting for an authorizaiton! Im in alot of pain and cannot walk very easily. I called 3 days after doc submitted and UHC put a rush” on it. 5 days later – still nothing. now they say it takes 2-15 business days—so even with a rush it will take the full 15 days! It is not good service when UHC just lets people suffer! Dont get this insurance ever!

Horrible insurance
Worst insurance company ever!! They don’t want to pay for anything, they play the blame game on blaming the doctors office for everything. Things that are supposed to be covered 100% they refuse to pay. Blue Cross Blue Shield is a whole lot better company. Never had these issues when we were with them. I would not ever recommend this company to anyone ever ever ever. For almost 2 years now it’s been the most horrible fight with them to do anything. I wouldn’t give this insurance to my worst enemy, that is how bad it is. Pay a fortune for it, and they don’t pay anything. Doesn’t matter that they are in network. 180 dollar doctor bill and they paid 3 dollars. Don’t waste your time with this company. They are worthless as they come.

Bait and switch
While United Healthcare seemed to be a reasonable choice, I will never go back to these scumbags. Arrogant representatives trained to be judge, jury and executioner, and comfortable, even happy to say NO”, as if to say tough luck!
I pay them gobs of money, never use the insurance, then get screwed when asking for the very thing I pay them for. They have a very bad attitude toward their customers. Drop me without any notice 24 days ago, and explain that they didn’t have to notify me, it is buried in the legalese of a 40 page contract, that they don’t have to be fair, or reasonable to their clients.
These kind of companies must go to lengths to find hatchet men to do their dirty work. Except in my case it was an arrogant mean woman who seemed to enjoy telling to effectively, GO “F” yourself”. They don’t have to be reasonable, because they can do anything they want and hide behind lawyers, and the fine print, to escape their responsibilities. They give their customers “attitude” instead of respect and the care you pay for. Stay away from companies like United Healthcare who find these miserable people to do their dirty work for them and leave customers holding a bag of crap, spending money on a system of corruption.

Avoid like the plague!!! 9 hours of phone calls to PHP and 15 transfers. They sent me to their preapproval PCP Doctor who preapproved the ortho removing an arm cast? They then denied payment to the specialist they preapproved for removing the cast. The PCP and Specialist both resubmitted and showed me the denials. UHC denied receiving anything or denying anything.

Disgusting
Today UnitedHealthCare refused to cover any costs associated with my daughter’s residential psychiatric/DBT treatment. My 15yr old daughter has bipolar disorder and has had multiple psychiatric admissions over the past 12 months. She has had 3 suicide attempts and is failing outpatient psychiatric treatment. Somehow they denied ANY coverage and believe she should continue outpatient treatment despite the obvious need for a higher level of care. As a board certified physician in Texas I am very familiar with medical decision making and the indications for psychiatric admissions. Today, I am thoroughly disgusted with UnitedHealthCare. Now we are posed with a difficult financial choices regarding her psychiatric care with no help from our insurance company. In healthcare we all have to take a financial loss from time to time while caring for patients, especially in life or death situations. Unfortunately UnitedHealthCare is more concerned about denying care and reporting profits than taking care of people.
