Breast cancer
Recent diagnosis of breast cancer, refusing bone scan and ct scan which was ordered to make sure the cancer has not spread. Great
We have paid their premiums for years with no to very little claims now when I need health care the most they are giving my doctors the run around. Hopefully I will still be here to change provider first of the year. Terrible insurance company. Stay away if you can.

Gets worse every year
Only option through my employer. Coverage gets worse every year. Tiered system introduced last year is endlessly frustrating. Customer service is generally unable to help unless something really basic. Would never recommend to anyone.

terrible customer service
The customer service reps are absolutely horrible. They are not held accountable and seem to have have a goal of getting the customer off the line. They seem not to take ownership of any issue and if it’s because they’re not properly trained and coached, shame on HAP.

Efficient and Effective
I recently found out that the office I go to for mental health therapy was no longer taking hap. Everyone at hap that I spoke to about it was really helpful. They denied my initial request for out of network authorization, but told me to write an appeal. I wrote my appeal and had an answer from them within a week of them recieving it and they approved it! Them approving this appeal is going to cost them much more money but they did it anyways because it was what was best for me. They not only posted it to my online page but they personally called me to tell me my appeal had been approved and answered all of my questions. In addition to this, because the office I go to no longer bills to hap it has caused me some challenges. Hap has been so helpful and courtesy through all of this and really put me first as a patient. I am so happy with haps customer service and their care for me over financial losses. Nothing but good things to say about my experience with hap!

Deny, Deny, Deny
When the patient must submit peer review articles and other medical data to the pharmacists that make decisions on what prescriptions you are allowed, in order to prove to them that yes indeed the drug requested by a doctor on their list is used and effective for your disease, you know you have a problem.
Yes, that’s right folks. I, the consumer, had to do the legwork and investigation because the pharmacists there had no idea this drug was being used to treat my disease.
So they eventually relented and let me have the drug. I go into remission, doc takes me off the drug, and then i am no longer in remission….guess what? The pharmacists again decide I cannot have the drug.
I’m frustrated, my doctor is frustrated, even my local pharmacist is aggravated. The joke at our office…HAP rhymes with CRAP for a reason.
We are now seeking legal counsel. Stay away from this insurer if you can. My employer switched to them 3-4 years ago, and I’ve yet to hear one employee say anything but negative about them.

Horrible Insurance
We are paying for a card not coverage. Constantly told out of network, wether dental, optical or medical. Prescription coverage is a nightmare also. Would not recommend. Sad because they used to be a great insurance company we recommended them to family and friends. Safe yourself a lot of grief steer clear of HAP!

Changes in Corporate Policies
I had HAP for over 30 years. They were an excellent company until a couple of years ago. Now.. new policies changes have made it impossible to get the medications I need. Customer Service tries but their hands are tied by mangement. Bye-Bye HAP.

Avoid HAP at all costs
My experience with HAP has been very negative. Just switched to them through my employer about a year and a half ago, and have found them to be very difficult to work with. It’s almost like a movie — they find technicalities on which to deny coverage, then have this kangaroo-court appeals” process in why they simply find other ways to say No, regardless of what normal logic, common sense, or common decency would dictate. If you have other options, don’t go with HAP. You may think they’re cheaper, but they’ll find a way to get the money from you in other ways. I will definitely be swtiching to another company as soon as possible.
