CNA is the 7th largest auto insurance underwriter in the nation. The company has assets of over 68 billion dollars, and claimed revenues in excess of 10.3 billion dollars in 2006. They have been in business for more than 100 years, and today conduct business throughout the United States. They bare the 14th largest liability insurer in the country.
CNA is a scam!!! I actually give ZERO Stars.....
CNA is SCAM pure & simple. I give them 0 Stars!!!
My 91yo mother (for whom I have Power of Attorney) has paid over $90,000 in premiums to CNA beginning in 1983. When she finally filed here initial claim in early 2020, she had to first complete a 90-visit elimination period before she could begin receiving any reimbursement. I had to literally call CNA each week to ensure that they had received the invoices & daily visit notes (DVNs) from her Home Health Provider (HHP) because the only CNA would receive them was via FAX!!! Really – It’s 2020 and you conduct your business via fax machine.
That was the first tip off this is all a scam because the “we never received the fax from you HHP so we can’t process you claim” excuse was used repeatedly until I started obtaining the confirmations of fax transmission from my HHP and using them to hold CNA accountable. Even then CNA constantly argued about wording or repetitive nature of the caregiver’s notes making a particular day of service ineligible to be counted in the elimination period.
The deal though, is that my mother’s caregiver comes into her home & does the same things for her every day, providing a assistance dressing, bathing, toileting, moving (transferring), preparing meals & light housekeeping – aside from the daily socialization that my mother enjoys with her. So why should there be a problem if the caregiver recorded the same things in her DVNs if that is what she does every time she visits my mother. CNA said that that the notes are just being copied from day-to-day and therefore would not be accepted and the service visits would not count. Only after I threatened to take legal action did CNA start to accept the notes as submitted – but of course CNA still denied receiving most of the faxes sent by the HHP.
Once we got past the 90-visit elimination period my mother was actually reimbursed for 8 weeks’ worth of visits in March & April of 2021, but again only after I had to call multiple times each week to hold them accountable for receiving the necessary invoices & DVNs faxed by the HHP. Then it took at least 30 days form my mother to be reimbursed for each of the 4 invoices covering the March-April timeframe. Ridiculous!!!
Then suddenly CNA refused to reimburse for any visits my mother received in May & June. Of course, I had to call multiple times only to be told that they had never received the fax transmitted documents for the HHP visits during that timeframe. To date this has not been resolved despite providing multiple fax transmission confirmations concerning these documents.
Then suddenly in August CNA reimburses my mother for 2 invoices covering visits she received in July. But today (Sat. 8/28) I have just received a letter from CNA claiming that the DVNs submitted form my mother’s July visits appear to be “copied” and that CNA will not provide future reimbursement if the DVNs are not “unique.”
What a bunch of BS!!! I will be calling CNA on Monday and informing them that I will begin legal proceedings against them for “breach of contract” and the following damages:
– $90K in premiums CNA collected from my mother
– To be determined compounded investment returns since 1983 on the $90K my mom would have collected had she kept her money and invested it
– $200/hour for every hour of personal time I’ve spent over the past 18 months dealing directly or indirectly with CNA to their underhanded business tactics
– An amount to be determined for Pain & Suffering, as this situation has caused my mother to become very anguished & agitated on regular basis. (As a side note – My mother feels very ashamed about being scammed and that she allowed this to be done to her. Unfortunately, I could not hide this situation from her because she is still very sound-of-mine and still handles her day-to-day finances – So she is very aware of the funds that should be moving in and out of her checking account.)
I also will inform CAN that I plan to file a complaint on them to the State of North Carolina Insurance Commissioner & Attorney General.
If this screed can help anyone to stay away from the crooks that are CAN, them my time here will have been well served………

IT’S BEEN A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
My mom has paid into the company since 1999 with the understanding that she would receive coverage when needed. She now has Parkinson’s and is 87 years old. The tremors are horrific! She struggles getting around. We have brought in a caregiver knowing we would have to pay the first 90 days and then thought CNA would cover the payments. That is what she was promised! She has been denied twice. We have submitted doctors’ notes which show she meets the qualifications. She continues to be denied. They state they need more information. What more information can we give? All is in black and white. I have written letters, send doctors’ notes, have called 8 times being promised a manager would return my call. Never did they call until today when after contacting an affiliated company, [REDACTED NAME] called with the response, “ Send in another letter of appeal.” And wait another 45 business days for you to reply and then I was told to add another 10 business days??? My mom could be dead by then! Our loved ones should not be dealing with this horrific, hopeless company at the end of their lives! Somebody needs to put them out of business!

**Do Your Research***
My father bought long term care insurance with this company 30+ years ago thinking that he would have coverage when he was old and infirm
.for both himself and my mother. When he had severe dementia and could not function well without care…the company provided little assistance with how to access care and what care would be covered. I am a physician, daughter and in reading the contract there are many vague points that allow CNA to not pay for any or all care. Look at the class action lawsuits against this company. There are several large ones…and with COVID now..there are more loopholes for the company to exclude coverage!!! IMO, you are better investing your money in low risk investments and getting to use the money as you see fit for care when you need it. Medicare although limited pays for quite a bit of care with choices and more transparency. RUN While you can. They paid NOTHING for my father’s in home very inexpensive care at his end of life and claimed a 90 day I’ll defined no pay period until you can start using benefits. And to try and get a helpful person to aid with the claim successfully is a waste of time! My mother and I have decided to cut our losses and exit out of care now for her…knowing that at least we will saved more than 2000 a year in premiums + have the price of mind that we will not get Duped Twice!! They prey on seniors and suck your money away. SHAME on CNA!!!

Long term
All the negative comments n ts so true. They do everything they can to not pay. A 0 is too high for this company. My mom has paid in over 40 years and they always want something else even though I know they have it.they are killing me.Stay away from this pathetic company. You are wasting your money thinking they will pay your claim. I need to get a lawyer and expose them.HORRIBLE

Terrible company to work with
We are in the process of filing a claim with CNA. They are doing everything possible to avoid paying. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Worst Company Ever- They lie- deny claims - Avoid this company at all costs!
If I could give them a zero I would it rt now. My mother has been paying on a LTC policy for over 20 plus years. At the age of 85 she needs to use this policy. Seven months later not one dime has been paid on this policy. She has a life time policy. Appealed twice denied twice- Interesting she had the same policy as my father (took them four months to pay on his policy after a threat of legal action for eight years) – They use every trick in the book not to pay . Interesting my parents used the same caregiver and agency and now the agency which is a franchise is not valid and my mother is out 1000’s of dollars.. Just another scam to get you to pay a premium and if you do not they will cancel you. Better off investing in stocks – Truly a shameful company and the sad part is that they try to pride themselves as being a stellar company. I turned them in to the BBB and the insurance commissioner ‘s office . Consult with a lawyer and get them to pay. Never give up fighting them!

Wonderful and efficient company
We do not agree with the poor reviews about CNA and their long term care department. We complied with all their requests for doctors’ reports, nurse observations, etc. and were very pleased with the timeliness of the process. Each agent we spoke to was extremely helpful and friendly and especially polite. We are now in the fifth month at our longterm care facility and feel assured that our health needs are well met–thanks to CNA.
If you are bothered by the parameters from a well-established company like CNA, then your temperament is lacking in patience and business sense.
Thank you to all the wonderful advisors who have answered all our quesrtions in a more than satisfactory and patient manner. Thank you CNA!!

Be Careful- avoid this company
Like others my mom has paid Long Term Care premiums to CNA for 20 years; starting the claim following her heart attack has been ridiculous. For 40 days now they have said multiple times they are sending the claim forms, they say they have snail-mailed and emailed the forms but we haven’t received them.

They raised their premiums by 70% on my 85 year old father. Constant battle for reimbursements. Terrible company don’t waste your money.

Krista Strauss, the worse agent! DO NOT GO GET CNA
I recently moved to an apartment complex which CNA insurance takes care of all their claims. I was entering the garage and the door fell on the roof of my car and cracked it. I reported to the management team of my apartment building and they told me CNA insurance deals with the claims and they connected me with Krista Strauss of CNA insurance, before she even spoke to me she assumed the scenario and denied my claim. I called her back and tried to talk to her but she was very impolite, rude and callous in her speech, she did not even give me a chance to speak without listening to all my concerns and reiterated her assumed statement and she hung up on me. Now that I have been trying to call her she keeps hanging up my call without talking to me. THIS IS SO UNPROFESSIONAL! She has no personal skills or even know how to talk. People like her usually ends up failing the company. Apart from this, I have a fully cracked car roof right when I entered the apartment that I just became a resident of and this is a hazard that nobody seems to care. The door sensors are of poor quality and don’t seem to retract the door on time and CNA insurance is not helping at all and they told me that nobody else had similar situation so they won’t cover for my damages! WORST COMPANY EVER ! If I have to give negative stars I would!! I suggest to anyone thinking of getting CNA insurance to go with another company but NOT WITH CNA INSURANCE!

daze and confuse and delay claims
After carrying the LTC policy for 25+ years and paying premiums of over 40K, this company focuses on denying claims, losing paperwork, lack of communication..tip of the iceberg. Biggest mistake ever. How many elderly are losing coverage due to CNA’s incompetency? We can’t sleep at night, can they?

When you get old and sick, CNA screws you more.
I understand CNA has stopped offering LTC; the main reason they now want to get rid of you by finding a way to cancel your insurance policy—and the reason their LTC is not offered thru my employer anymore, so now my premiums are no longer automatic thru payroll.
I made a mistake—I forgot to send the form to set up automatic payments, and missed a payment. Now they will not reinstate my LTC after 30 years of being their customer. I answered all the questions on their questionnaire; I answered one incorrectly. I received a letter stating due to that ONE answer RE disability, they could not reinstate my LTC. I provided proof I never applied for SSDI. They replied back, now saying they need to look at my medical records to determine my eligibility. Now they say because of my medical history, they cannot reinstate my LTC, even thou the conditions I saw a doctor for in the past, were not listed on the questionarie for reinstatement as health conditions that would prevent me from being insured.
Yes. I feel in good shape, and was hoping I never had the need to use my LTC. But my insurance was canceled because there is a chance I might have to file a claim in the future. Why do these people sell you insurance if they will not let you use it for the purpose you bought it for from the beginning? These people are Scammers!

LTC Policy claim response is VERY poor.
We have been trying to get CNA to pay my mothers claim for four months after she paid in for over 25 years. They keep saying they need info (health care plans & notes) from home health care agency and send letters saying they will cancel claim if they don’t get it by a certain date. ALL FALSE. CNA did not send required HIPPA release forms to HHC & they lost everything they were sent & did not send what was required of the. Nearly verything was sent to CNA twice. It’s a good thing that HHC agency documented every fax & re-fax confirmation & the people they spoke to, so I have my documentation & HHC Agency on how often they dropped the ball, lost the fax, etc, etc. Every CNA delay is well documented. I don’t know if this is avoiding payment of a claim or if everything they do is delivered with an incredibly high level of incompetence. Insurance commissioner & our attorney don’t care which it is. We can’t cancel The policy now with so much invested so we will fight the legal fight because we are told we have a good case.

Worst Customer Service around
Policy through company was competitively priced. But every time I’ve had to deal with them their customer service is the worst I’ve seen. Endless hold. No online payments, still stuck in the 19th century.
If I have a chance to dump them I will in a heart beat.

Unfortunately, They Had to Pay Me
I have had a couple claims with CNA Insurance. The majority of the phone agents I dealt with were helpful and communicative. But I have also had difficult and disappointing phone calls.
I have the preferred tire care +plus package. I had recently purchased 3 new tires to replace the original tires on my vehicle. Only one of the tires had road damage but the other tires were at the end of their lifespan and needed to be replaced.
I was in the middle of the claim process and had already had multiple phone calls regarding the claim. I had explained the situation to previous agents and they were in the process of sending me the reimbursement check. During those previous calls, I had been told I would be reimbursed for all 3 tires.
Then I had a follow up phone call with another agent. She told me that only 1 tire was eligible for reimbursement. I told her I completely understood if that was the terms of my policy, but however I had been told something different and that should be honored. She did not believe me. At my insistence, (she did not volunteer to do this action out of due diligence) she listened to my previous phone calls. She came back to the phone and told me that “Unfortunately, you were told that all tires would be reimbursed. Unfortunately the previous agent did not go over the terms of your policy with you, so we will be sending you a check for all tires. But I’ve put a note on your file that you are not eligible for any more reimbursements from us” . Throughout the phone call, her tone was not understanding and her words were aimed to make me feel at fault.
If you want an agent that displays care and concern for your customer needs, CNA is not the insurance for you.

20th Century Website
The CNA website is close to useless. Users are not able to 1) view past payments or 2) preview upcoming bills and scheduled payments. As of this writing in late 2017, all CNA billing information is communicated through paper mail. For a company to whom our business pays thousands of dollars in premiums each year, this is a laughably poor customer experience.

Avoid at all costs
FYI – good luck trying to get anyone from CNA on the phone. Unless they think you owe them money, then they’ll be all over you. They dropped me for no reason other than ‘they no longer cover my industry’. Never had to pay a single claim and I always paid my premiums on time. After they dropped me and i finally found a company to replace them, I start getting hassled with audit requests. They actually want to go back over my previous (claimless) year, and see if they can charge me more money. when I tell them no, they send me a bill for $5k+. In short, they suck. If you like getting poor service and jacked up prices, then this is the company for you. Otherwise, avoid them at all costs.

Selling Exclusion as Endorsement is Fraud
We’re a small business (10 employees) with a CNA policy. When we got the policy, we got the electronic data processing endorsement, thinking we were buying coverage. Instead, we were buying an exclusion for anything other than an attack targeted solely at us. That’s a purple unicorn – it doesn’t exist. We were recently hit with a ransomware virus and tried to file a claim. Excluded as these viruses are mass attacks and not targeted just at us.

terrible customer service
My mother has been paying for Long Term Care insurance for over 20 years. Now she needs care, and they are fighting paying for it tooth and nail. It has been over3 mo. since the claim was made, but they keep stalling and asking for more forms, more questions, more B.S. You talk to a different person every time, and they even lie to you and say they are mailing a check, but they don’t. I will be contacting the insurance commissioner to take action against this company.
