waste of time and money
I see no return on investment for the services rendered. My benefits are through the company I work for … and the only option … when i assess cost per pay period and deductibles i really see no benefit. Health care providers have informed me more than once that Cigna has the lowest reimbursement and therefore they no longer accept it … sigh …

Dollars before disease; profits before people.
Words can’t express my disappointment with Cigna! My employer has our health benefits through them. Recently, Cigna initially said it will cover COVID-19/Corona Virus testing for all of us as employees, no questions asked. So, after experiencing immense difficulty breathing and persistent cough/fever that wouldn’t go away, I finally attempted to take Cigna up that offer. Then, they basically went back on their promise!! Cigna decided that: I’m not covered since this test does not meet our definition of medical necessity, as outlined in your specific plan.” (Luckily, it turns out I didn’t actually have the virus.) But now I’m stuck with tons of medical bills, due to Cigna’s unethical and sleazy business practices! My employer’s HR unit has been going around and around with Cigna, but not getting anywhere either. My HR rep. even tells me they’re probably going to drop Cigna in the near future once their contract is up. Not only because of my own insurance denial fiasco with them, but countless other problems too affecting other members. Good for my employer to do this, to protect our health! After all, would anyone including a family with children really want to entrust a health insurer with their own health that basically stares a global pandemic in the face, only to do the morally and socially irresponsible thing afterwards by refusing to do their own part in order to prevent disease contagion? (No, I didn’t think so…) Cigna is a very dishonest insurance company which can’t ever be trusted!! Do not ever do business with them. Period. End of analysis. To Cigna, it is obviously the almighty dollar that wins out every time, when compared to the health (and potential survival) of another human being’s life!! To say that I’m beyond disappointed in all the dishonesty, deception, and underhanded denial tactics Cigna uses, simply to sell out their values for a stack of greenbacks, would certainly be an understatement!!!”

prescriptions are cheaper without this insurance
When I filled my first script on Cigna, which is through my work, I was charged the co-pay $25 for 30 days. I had paid far less with our previous insurance, and I knew about insurers overcharging for prescriptions, so I did some research. Goodrx.com had the same script, 90 days of generic Lipitor for $17. I had paid $75 for 3 months with Cigna insurance. Another script, amlodipine, was FREE from Publix, a grocery store, and Cigna wanted $75. The majority of my scripts, generics, cost less without Cigna. So what’s the point of paying for this insurance when they either don’t pay or dispute every claim. It is a nightmare. Avoid if possible.

Wish another option was available...
Insurance coverage provided through my wife’s employer. Worst insurance company I’ve had to deal with (this review also includes their 3rd party assessment” company Evicore). They have denied pre-authorization for a simple procedure that would mitigate or eliminate my excruciating pain for the past 7 weeks

Cigna is the WORST EVER
This is the absolute worst health insurance company ever. I am suffering as I write this review and Cigna has refused the authorize the CT scans that my internist has ordered. I am experiencing abdominal pain, severe fatigue and unrelenting cold sweats. My condition deteriorates daily and I am at a standstill because of Cigna. Thus is a HORRIBLE health insurance company. AVOID IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.

Cigna is a Scam! The service is horrible!
My claim manager was horrible and no one could help me ! If you need time away from work due to medical issues you won’t get paid ! They are a scam and fake advertise ! They do not care about the customers at all!

Avoid this company like the plague!
Cigna is beyond the worst of the worst! They have categorically refused to cover my chemotherapy on the grounds of them deciding that it is not being medically necessary.” Five different doctors on my care team however, including two different oncologists obviously disagree. When you are a Stage III breast cancer patient like I am, that is obviously and clearly NOT the time to tell the patient and/or their doctors that chemotherapy isn’t “medically necessary”!! Of course it is! Everyone knows that, but this insurance company is just trying to weasel their way out of covering the cost of my treatment, because it’s not necessarily going to be cheap to undergo multiple rounds of chemo. In my opinion, this insurer Cigna really doesn’t seem to care if their patients will suffer (or could even potentially die in my particular case with my diagnosis). Cigna has denied my chemotherapy treatment on 7 different occasions, despite clinical recommendations from my oncologist, OBGYN practitioner, and family medicine doctor. None of those doctors’ medical opinions seem to matter to Cigna though, who is determined to just keep on denying this much needed care. So honestly, my best advice to whichever woman (or even a man) reading my review right now would be to just avoid dealing with Cigna altogether. They will be their quick as a flash to accept your insurance premium payments, yet will disappear just as quickly when it comes time to pay out on valid claims. Right now, I’m just so scared and hurt, that I don’t know where else to turn to. Each day is a struggle, wondering whether Cigna’s constant denials will have long-term effects on my health? For those reading this review though, please don’t make the same mistake I did by choosing Cigna as a health insurer. This has been the worst insurance company which I’ve ever dealt with, and I’d hate for someone else to have to go through these same ordeals. Avoid Cigna altogether if you value your health and your sanity!!”

The worst insurance
This is definitely the worst insurance I have ever had. I got close to my deductible and they held a claim until they could work the number and pay the least before finally showing that I was over the deductible. Their people will lie to you just to get you off the phone. Anybody that posts a good review must have money in the company. If this was not the only option through my work I would NEVER choose cigna. We’ve always has good insurance through work BUT this has got to be the WORST. They will weasel their way out of actually helping and they are great at creative figuring- IF IT IS IN THEIR FAVOR. They even denied one employees yearly checkup. Stay smart and stay away from this company,

Worst health plan ever
Cigna is the worst health plan ever
I have a son who is autistic, and he has severe speech delay. Cigna denied our speech therapy claim and said we would need pre-authorization for speech therapy. My son’s speech therapist provided all the medical record and evaluation report and I provide the diagnose report and prescription for speech therapy, but they still deny the authorization ““ then then the customer service (True care)told me we can do a peer to peer review to get the authorization processed. However, when my provider calls to schedule a peer to peer review, the answer they get is no we can’t do it. I as a customer must step in to make sure people among different department in Cigna, they are talking to each other so that there is no disconnection. It’s truly a horrible process and I don’t understand why Cigna is making the process so difficult for a family who has an ASD kid. We had enough stress and difficulties in our daily life but Cigna, you make it even worse. I have a state regulated plan and Cigna still make the process so difficult.
Worst plan ever and no sympathy to special needs family at all. Stay away from Cigna

avoid this company
After 3 months using Cigna with policy 750, Cigna changed my policy to 5000 and put my husband as primary with no reason. This company replied to my questions that Marketplace has changed my information. I contacted Cigna and Marketplace a lot to follow up on this issue. Then, I did a three-way call and Cigna representative was informed that my policy was 750. However, he asked me to apply through Marketplace again to update their system (Cigna denied I had 750 for three months and took an easy way to fix the issue). Unfortunately, even if all my information was the same, I was eligible for 3400. I appealed the Marketplace’s result and also complained Cigna. This company followed up and after three months they put me back on 750 policy. They asked me to cancel the appeal. a week after receiving my new ID card, I got another letter that I have 3400. I contacted Cigna again and they say that I had this policy and nothing is changed. They ignored my email after that and didn’t reply. They put me in trouble and I have to may more because of their fault now they don’t take responsibility. They asked me to cancel the appeal while the issue was not resolved. never ever will work with this company.

Terrible, unethical insurance company- Buyer bewar
I had coverage through my ex-husbands company for several years. During 2018, I had coverage from 1/1/18- 7/30/18. In October, I was notified by my doctor, who is an independent provider, that Cigna was demanding repayment of all the claims for 2018 as they said I was not covered. He was notified that it was going to collections (!!!). After countless hours on the phone by my Dr, myself, and the HR department at my ex’s company, submission of paychecks showing payments thru July, documentation by Ex’s company showing cancellation on 7/30/18, and verbal follow-up by a Provider rep at Cigna- I was assured by Cigna, and HR that the matter was resolved and the company acknowledged that I was, in fact, covered. Come to find out; Cigna once again has demanded repayment and has no record of ALL the dozens of emails and countless hours put in by Dr, HR, and myself.
BUYER BEWARE!!! unethical company, terrible customer service, and no tracking between agents and departments at Cigna of any communications at all. Fortunately, it is for a relatively small amount of $$, less than $10,000, and I am healthy enough to be able to go through this. HOWEVER, I can not imagine what would happen if someone with a life threatening or chronic situation with $100s of thousands on the line could possibly deal with this!
My advice is to run from this company as if your life depended on it, because if it ever does, there will be no accountability or ethics from Cigna at all!

25 years on a prescription denied!
my mother have been on Zoloft, the brand name for 25 years. Multiple times she has tried other medications, but she is either allergic or they don’t work. Here i am 2 weeks before Christmas and and Cigna who she has had for 6 month refuses to fill her prescription…. asking her to take the generic that she is allergic to. Claiming she is not established on the medicine…. FOR 25 YEARS!!!!!!! This is a mood stabilizer and she is a teacher! What is wrong with this company ???
Not to mention being denied my appeal to cigna because they didn’t explain the directions properly to the doctors office!!!

Honouring of claims
I’ve had an absolutely atrocious experience with Cigna. Please do not get insured with them if you want to make sure they honour their commitments.
I was meant to go for knee surgery after an accident. Cigna accepted the claim, but we were still negotiating on where the surgery would take place. Then my coverage with them ended and now they refuse to honour the claim although the law is pretty clear that they have to honour the claim once it has been lodged with them. My organisation and the insurance broker have lodged a complained with the insurance regulator in the UK. I didn’t have any issues with them when I only claimed for small medical treatments, but my first and only experience with them on a major issue was absolutely degrading and that’s the type of insurance I really care about.

Cigna is Garbage
Cigna is absolute garbage insurance. They deny and delay necessary procedures and treat their members poorly.
In short, I have a torn spinal disc on which I was supposed to have surgery about 2 months ago. Cigna denied my surgery, and my experience since then with Cigna in trying to resolve this has been utterly awful.
Cigna decided that my surgery was not medically necessary because I hadn’t seen a psychiatrist, which is absurd. 2 MRI’s and other diagnostic procedures clearly indicate a torn L5-S1 disc as the source of pain. The issue with my spine is quite obviously mechanical, and so the requirement to see a psychiatrist was a complete waste of my time and money, and kept me in pain needlessly. But I went ahead and saw the psychiatrist anyway, figuring it was the fastest way to get approval.
After Cigna lost the records my doctor sent over multiple times, I was finally able to get them to confirm they had what they needed. At this time, I was told they would reach a decision in 5 business days. After a week, I called to find my case was not even under review. Then, I was given a new promise of a decision within 72 hours. After that time elapsed, I was told that no decision had been made and they couldn’t even tell me why. After several more calls and more conflicting answers, I’m now being told that I’ll have to wait 30 days. No one at Cigna seems to have any clue what is going on with my case, and they just give me false or conflicting information.
Cigna Customer Service” is a complete nightmare. They have given me false information over and over, and refuse to take any responsibility for it. I satisfied their requirements for this surgery over a month ago, and yet they continue to delay. They seem content to keep me in pain indefinitely, with an ever-changing story about when I’ll get a resolution. Cigna simply does not care about their members at all, and they operate in bad faith using questionable denials and delays.

Wish I could give zero
I have had significantly uneven breasts since puberty. It is to the point that it gives me horrible back pain and headaches when I wear a real bra (which is difficult to do seeing there is a 2+ cup size difference). Saw a plastic surgeon to speak about augmentation who said he was confident at least some of the cost would be covered, as this was usually the case for his other patients in my same situation. Took over a month to hear back after multiple calls to the insurance company who told us I was denied coverage because they do not cover “breast reduction for large breasts” , when that is not my case. It is a medical deformity that I’ve lived with my whole life and nobody can explain why. All I want is to feel normal in my own skin and Cigna has done nothing to assist in that. I’m confident that any other decent heath insurance would have covered at least some of the costs of this (necessary) surgery.

Worst insurance money can buy
My husband and I pay over $14,000 per year for our Cigna health insurance. I had a car accident 4 years ago. I have many health problems due to it. I had a triple disckectomy in my neck 3 years ago. I still have a collapsed disc in my neck and have 5 bulging/herniated discs in the lower lumber in my back. I’ve been suffering tremendously for the past 6 months with excruciating chronic pain in my neck and back. My Dr ordered an MRI in November, 2017. Cigna denied it. My Dr. Ordered an epidural injection in my neck in January, 2018. They denied it as well! I wouldn’t recommend this rip off insurance company to anyone! I only gave a 1 star rating because there wasn’t an option for a zero!

False representation of Benefits
Needed an elective ultrasound for rule out of cancerous tumor. Called Cigna to ensure that my current insurance plan covers the procedure. Cigna representative provided information that if I completed my procedure at the diagnostic center on the list provided and emailed to my attention, the procedure is covered 100% regardless of my deductible and all I am responsible only for the office copayment. Then a month later after the procedure, I received a Cigna statement stating that the ultrasound procedure is not covered 100% because I have not met the plan deductible. This is false representation of benefits by Cigna. Please beware of this insurance company. We just recently switch to Cigna, and sadly to say that the poor reviews for this insurance company is true. Cigna falsely represent their benefits to their customers especially when there is a non-routine procedure to be completed. Do not recommend my experience with Cigna has been a great one.
