What is State Farm Drive Safe and Save?

The State Farm Drive Safe and Save app connects to a Bluetooth beacon that State Farm will provide you once you enroll. As long as you keep your Bluetooth on the app will provide you with driving feedback.

Here are some things it will tell you about, so you can correct your driving habits and begin saving money.

  • Distracted Driving
  • Fast Cornering
  • Hard Braking
  • Quick Acceleration
  • Speeding

If you limit these suboptimal driving behaviors you’ll begin to see discounts on your premiums. Keep in mind that insurance companies are all about risk and this app really just simplifies the process for both you and the insurer.

Before we go into a little more detail on how you can save, let’s take a look at the rates you’d be decreasing. Consult the following table to see rates for not only State Farm but other companies as well.

OnStar

Remember how we said that with State Farm’s Drive Safe and Save program they would send you a Bluetooth beacon? The other option is to have an OnStar system that will do the same thing.

When comparing these two the fact of the matter is that both of these devices yield the same result. No matter which of these two devices you use, State Farm says that you could save anywhere between 30 percent and 50 percent on your auto insurance premiums.

So what is the difference? Why get OnStar? Because there will be a further discount that will be calculated based on your annual mileage. This is calculated via collected readings from your odometer.

Let’s wrap up with the various plans OnStar offers.

OnStar Plans

OnStar actually has several plans to choose from. Their Connected Access Plan has the basics to help you keep your car healthy. If you purchase a new vehicle, you get 10 years of this.

The Remote Access Plan is similar except you don’t need to be in your car to access OnStar. You can just use your OnStar login on the mobile app.

First off, the Unlimited Access Plan has everything the Remote Access Plan has. The Unlimited Access Plan also allows for unlimited data, it has Amazon’s Alexa built-in, and comes with Turn-by-Turn Navigation.

So, how much is OnStar? Connected Access is $15 per month. Remote Access is also $15 per month but can also be procured for a year for only $149.90. Lastly, the Unlimited Access Plan is $24.99 per month.

You may also be wondering how to get OnStar for free. They will give you three months of Connected Services and some perks as a free trial.

In the end, the point is to accrue as many discounts as possible. When you start a policy, be it with State Farm or any other insurer, inquire as to what discounts you can take advantage of that are applicable to your life. No accountability from them

I had an accident a while back and they got my car fixed at a location THEY recommended. I had it fixed (according to the location) and I left just fine. I had an accident a while back and they got my car fixed at a location THEY recommended. I had it fixed (according to the location) and I left just fine. Exactly one year later I’m starting to have issues with my car and after a few discoveries, I knew it stemmed from that accident. I called State Farm and they had me take it to get looked at and go from there. I took it to a collision center and waited for my car to get looked at. It has been a mess from there and I had no car for about a month! In that month it was full of no communication from their end, and no responsibility and accountability over something I was 100% sure stemmed from that accident, seeing as my car was perfectly fine before. I have received mostly bad customer service from workers there who spoke to me with little patience, condescending tones and if I was a disturbance, as if I haven’t been a loyal customer for YEARS. Everyone who was helping me with this case outside of the state farm team has been super helpful and patient because they understand how much of a stress this can be to someone. In the end I had two different people come out to estimate my car, the second time me being there to help them understand what they need to be looking at. The estimator the second time even saw defects the previous people who fixed my car had done. I’m the end, they still didn’t believe it was from this, but instead because this was originally a salvage vehicle so it MUST be from that. Ignoring the fact that my car was perfectly fine beforehand and had no issues with ANYTHING, including getting it aligned. Distraught, I had to drive an unsafe vehicle for a week, clutching at the wheel and hoping I can make it to and from my destinations, until I had a body shop guy look at my car and see what was going on. I took it today and he said, just as I imagined, the entire issue was from the side where (shock!) the accident occurred! The left side was fine. As soon as I fix the right side, my car should be fine. The previous people who had my car literally destroyed my vehicle and even caused me to have a what could have been deadly accident where my tire split, and State Farm simply backed them up (not to mention that place closed so that shows how “reputable” they were) instead of supporting a loyal customer for years. We pay hundreds to insurance companies a month and the rare times we need them to use the money we give them, they treat us like crap and take no responsibility for taking us to a place that don’t fix my car and almost had me killed. I’m not even typing out all the small details on this issue and look how long this review had to be! Truly I may just switch insurances because this has been such a horrible experience and I hope the next place actually cares about their customers. “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”? Lmao if they were my “good neighbors”, I’d close my blinds and ignore them if they rang my doorbell to come over…

Horrendous Property Department service. Don't use State Farm

Instead of helping me to figure out a way to reduce costs, [REDACTED NAME], a representative in their Property department kept reading their standard clauses in front of her to me like a 10 year old student reciting a textbook. When asking to talk to her manager, she rejected my request right away. Instead, she called back later and said she did talk to the manager and rejected the claim of covering my transmission and happily send a rejection letter to me. It sounds like she wi take some credits for rejecting a legitimate claim on her resume.

Pray your never hit by a statefarm holder

Pray you never get hit by someone with statefarm. I was hit in August and still haven't received compensation. They will tell you one thing and it be completely different the next. Everyone is very unprofessional and disorganized. Telling me I'll have my money soon then Telling me "oh no one has reviewed it" while multiple people have opened the documents but no ones ok-ing things. Does someone need to sue this company to get anywhere???

Bait and switch

Check your policy carefully. My experience has been that they don’t return emails, didn’t set up my auto policy as agreed on several things such as the payment schedule and deductibles. [REDACTED NAME]’s care of my policy requests was the worst. Super curt in response to a routine emailed policy change and to make matters worse never followed up. Now that I really think about it I’m not even sure how I ended up with this particular location. Somewhere along the way SF did an agent switch without informing me 🤷‍♀️ Lastly as far as banking? Jurassic Park! What a hassle !!! It’s literally been decades since I got a check in the mail!! $5.95 🥹

Shocked at service

Just shocked! Been with the company for 12+ years, hit something in my yard, filed a claim, and have yet to hear from a claim agent. I had to reach out myself and did the estimate picture assessment, which was supposed to be 24 to 48 hours, but haven't heard from anyone. Been four days, lack of concern for the customer, I guess that don't have the proper staff, not sure, guessing here. Nothing like what they used to be.

Claims review from an industry insider

Long story short, I had been a loyal State Farm customer for about 30 years. They recently started giving me a hard time because I like to buy different cars, as I'm an auto enthusiast. I recently rented a vehicle for a family trip and had a minor not-at-fault accident. My agent flat refused to take the claim, first alleging that I HAD TO file with the other insurance company. I declined, and she then told me I had to report the claim online....
I declined, and she then told me I had to report the claim online. I tried to do that, but was told I couldn't because it was a rental car. I had to call a 800 number. I did so and was told the process takes 20 minutes and the hold time was 25 minutes. I called my agent back and she again refused to help. Needless to say, I have moved to a different carrier as of a few days ago. I am in the same line of work as State Farm, and have been for 25 years. I am deeply familiar with the auto insurance world and the claims process. This level of service is utterly unacceptable and I would NEVER allow such things to occur with my employer. State Farm, you spend an untold fortune advertising your service on all forms of media. However, your actions don't back up your claims (pun intended). I have also interviewed literally dozens of your staff over the years, if not hundreds, and all say the same thing. A poor place to work. You have a lot of work to do, State Farm.

How can State Farm treat me like this????

Back in Jan 2020 (CLMS - 2004G091k) someone from State Farm hit me from behind while driving to work. Back in Jan 2020 (CLMS - 2004G091k) someone from State Farm hit me from behind while driving to work. From the start they claims guy attempted not to fully repair my vehicle claiming all damages were not from the accident. He reviewed the accident site on Google Maps. My car had never been hit or damaged until that day. Fast forward to COVID shut down March 15, 2020 and then being diagnosed with cancer which caused me to stop treatment for neck and back pain from the accident and stay safe at home. I later found a doctor who would treated me for the pain in August 2020. I received his bill which he attempted to turn into the claims department with no success. I then receive the bills which I forwarded to State Farm and I'm told they will not honor them because of the 2 year limitation. The USA was shut down, billing was late, people didn't go to work and so forth. All I asked was to pay a $2,400.00 bill which they didn't pay any of my other bills sent to them. Oh, nor did they pay for the yellow paint and side fender damage on my vehicle either. This is how State Farm treats people their clients hit. I know next time to hire a good lawyer no matter what when hit by a State Farm insured driver.
